"Ship is high and, I don't know to make now,I'm gonna try to slip inside the mind of a clown! Follow me thinking I can save them, follow me thinking I could turn a frown into a SMILE!" (Above lines from the song "smile" by Flikerstick!) VH1,set them up,let them perform in room full of A&R SHARKS and, gave them thier first(and, thus far only)video, however it would've been nice if VH1 did a follow up on the band! It's not Flickerstick's fault that BOTR Jumped those SHARKS(nor is it the fault of Soul Cracker, Harlow, nor The Josh Doddis Band)nope I'm afriad the blame goes souley to VH1!
I watched two episodes and it was total crap. The cameras would follow the bands around and the band would try to act like the cameras weren't there. VH1 tried to jump on the reality show band wagon and they bit the dust!
It's the only reality show I'd be caught dead watching. These people are actually displaying discernable talent, as compared to contestants on other reality shows. The formula is pretty good in weighing the marketing element with the music element. I'm not sure if any of these bands are going to save rock and roll, but all of them are decent enough to be interesting to watch.
This show jumped on day one. One would think there would be some variety in the music and it wouldn't be as lame as real worlds. Instead it's just several bands being played over and over again. Here's a tip, new episodes=new bands.
I agree it's too early to tell...(they might be building the ramp, but there's no buoys in the water). It is one of the better 'reality' shows out there.I swear i've been in half those cheesy dives..not makin' squat. I hope they at least practice with Trash Cans.
Bands on the run is the best reality TV show I've seen to date, because it really is reality. Survivor isn't reality TV...people don't really go to desert islands and have contests. Bands on the run really shows the rock and roll lifestyle, and shows what fledgling acts have to do to get big. Also, I think the system of elimination is very just. Because it's not only who works the hardest who wins, but who plays the best music who wins. I never miss this show. I can't wait to see who wins this one, and can't wait to see the next season.
Okay, so it's only in its first year and it would be pretty hard to tell at this point if it will end up hopping over the big fish, but I think that based on what I've seen so far, this show will manage to avoid it. Anyone who has done the local bar/club scene and followed any up and coming bands has to appreciate this behind the scenes look. At first, I thought that they were all a bunch of whiners, like what could be so hard about promoting your band? Then I realized that they were always being thrown into a new town each week where they didn't have any contacts or following. Overall, it's great voyeuristic fun, and beats the hell out of the other pap that's on Sunday nights.
Strike one...the bands are TRYING to hard. Strike two...they name it after a Wings song. Strike three...I'm out.
