Nia Vardolas, you just saw your low budget indie comedy become one of the most profitable films in history. How are you going to wreck your career?

I'M GOING TO TURN IT INTO A SITCOM!
this is s000 fraackkin c00ll mann ~!!!!!!!!
The movie was good.
I watched the first episode of the series.
The producers didn't bother to make it good.
I never bothered to watch another episode.
I was not surprised when the show was cancelled.
Nia made the same mistake as current has-been TV star. She let her success go to her head, thinking that it was her that was the ONLY reason that the show succeded, not the talented writers, directors, producers, cast, etc.

The other person had a great single career, and had a great show, because it had great writers, a great cast, and great crew to keep it fresh. The more she took control, the worse the show got and the lower the ratings. It got so bad, it basically killed her career. Thankfully the other talented members did not fall victim to her poor judgement. Now she can't even keep a lousy talk show alive. Yes - I'm talking about Roseanne

If Nia woulod have waited like other posters had mentioned and concentrated on a sequel to MBFGW, swhe would still be on top. The show was doomed from the start by her arrogance and the changes in main cast members. While a decent and talented actress, she in not the center of the universe.

It's just like Everybody Loves Raymond - Ray Ramano is a decent comic, reminds me of Bob Newhart, but he is not that funny on his own. It was the total ensemble of the cast that made the show such a hit. They all were a part of a greater whole.

Nia forgot that. She played a great part in MBFGW, but she was not the entire movie, the interaction of the entire cast was. Too bad too, because I really looked forward to the series hoping it was as great if not better than the movie, but was sadly disappointed.
The show jumped when I found out that Ian Miller would not be played by John Corbett, but Steve Eckholdt, and also when I found out that Nia Vardalos' character would be named Nia, not Toula! If it ain't broke, don't fix it! But overall, this show was not a good idea. Nia Vardalos has killed her career, when she could (and should) have waited a few more years and done a sequel to My Big Fat Greek Wedding, ironically called My Big Fat Greek Life!
The movie was awesome and original. But the sitcom is bland, unoriginal, oversexed and poorly acted. I am sure had it debuted in 1999, it would be hugely popular and an amazing success. I am not sure how it will do today.
I wanted to like this show. I really did. The movie was wonderful, and the news that the show would retain almost all of the film's cast was seemingly heaven-sent. However, this one definitely will not be in Mash/Odd Couple territory of series from movies. Beginning with an incredibly contrived baggage carrousel gag ("That's not our bag." (It goes past them) "Oh wait, it is!" Seriously, that's exactly what happened) it then reduced all the three dimensional characters we grew to love into despicable punks and stereotypes. Add that the show is now in the Simpsons' time slot and I won't be tuning in anymore.
This show jumped when it was announced it would exist. We all know the story: Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks saw Nia Vardalos' live performance and wanted to produce a movie for her. She had already pitched the idea to a major network as a TV show but they had passed. Then, the movie comes out, breaks all sorts of records, and someone thinks "Now it seems like a good idea for a show!" Don't get me wrong - I saw the movie within the first month of its release - it was harmless and enjoyable. A feel-good flick. But can anyone disagree that John Corbett (the husband in the movie) had the right idea by staying with a "previous commitment" (some show i've never heard of on FX.) Also, was that a laugh track or what?
This show never deserved the CHANCE to jump the shark... it was crap from the very beginning - why make a tv show on a movie that wasn't a success itself?
What's the Greek word for "vomit"? The corporate suits binged out on souvlaki and vodka and gave us this dreck. Just goes to show that too much of even a good thing (the movie was funny and enjoyable) can just make you want to puke!!!!
Day one. Funny enough movie; God-awful sit-com!
When I saw the preview of the woman holding up the panties and saying "Now I'm gonna get me some grandbabies" and herd the canned laughter I thought that this is just more uncreative crap from those uncreative dumbasses at CBS. I hope some writer got his ass fired for this atrocity and became so depressed as a result he did the right thing and took a gun and blew his ****** brains out!!!! This show does not have a single poster who thinks was good, and by my observation holds the record as the overall most hated show on the entire website. Spending an eternity in Hell would be the only just reward for anyone associated with this show.
This show wasn't needed. The house was different than the movie, the characters were acting different, and it just wasn't funny. Even the canned laughter didn't help it. Day one it stunk.
CBS should have insisted on a complete rework before airing a single episode, and set the pilot aside for the archives. Nia Vardalos was completely different from her character in the movie, and that's why I choose the "same character, different actor" category. She was far too quick with the snide one-liners, and thus the series lost a great deal of the charm that the movie held. Pity. The childhood scenes were very good, and there was so much potential that Vardalos simply threw away because she reverted to her stand-up act and one-woman show. A great cast was wasted. (I forgot how much I missed Michael Constantine.)
I watched the movie, and loved it. It hit so close to home for me and my husband. So, we were so excited when we heard there was a show being made. We love TV. During the first episode alone, we both looked at each other and said, "this isn't funny" "it's not the same at all!" It just got more painful each episode after that, we only saw 4 or 5 at most. Why did the show suck? Well, for one thing, they felt the need to put in gags every minute or two, as if not laughing every second would kill them. However, we didn't laugh anyhow. In the movie she seemed like she was the butt of jokes, and was sort of the "straight guy" while everyone else got their jokes off. But in the show, she felt the need to make every joke, and frankly, I didn't think she could carry them.
