Basic opinions, I might be wrong but to my understanding:
1. Steve Irwin like most Australians never learned to speak English properly and was so over friendly that he was annoying.
2. Before Steve Irwin came along, a shark was only a vicious monster as in Jaws I-V and a "crocodile hunter" was a crocodile killer as in Crocodile Dundee I-II.
3. Nonetheless Steve Irwin, by calling himself "Crocodile Hunter," did himself attempt to capitalize on the popularity of the pre-existing Crocodile Dundee series.
4. Nonetheless I would place Steve Irwin as the No. 2 milestone for the popular understanding and preservation of dangerous predators. No. 1 goes to Farley Mowat, author of Never Cry Wolf, 1973. And I do not see how anyone might argue with that.

i think itn is really unfair to call a real person's death jumping the shark. i grew up watching crocodile hunter and that really got me into zoology! i was upset when i found out he died. and i had a party to go to that day. but all these tribute shows are just flogging a dead horse now. when steve died i just stopped following the whole crocodile hunter thing but if bindi and terri are carrying on the zoological work good on them. and i too have a nasty feeling that terri is exploiting bindi
it is very sad that steve died at an early age but he was obviously passionate about what he did and did what he loved - seriously - how many of us can say that about ourselves?
I was never a big fan of Steve Irwin, and I still thought it was sad when he died. 
but it sounds like his widow and kids (especially his daughter - I think her name is Bindi?) are still trying to keep his legacy alive. and I think that's cool!!

If some person drives around really fast, and they continually drive drunk, I do not think you would be surprised if someone told you that this person was driving fast and drunk, hit a tree and died. No person in the right mind would say that they were surprised the person driving fast died in a car wreck. No one in their right mind would say it was not the person’s fault that they died if they were driving fast and drunk. This Irwin guy continually invaded all types of animals’ homes and feeding ground. Why in the hell are we surprised one finally got tired of this idiot bugging them and did something about it. I enjoyed his show a lot, but he definitely got what he deserved. Leave the animals alone, and they will leave you alone.
it would have been funny if while he was alive he actually jumped a shark other than that it sucked he also helped take wildboyz off the air(if he died we could too...)
True, Steve's death was not a publicity stunt, and nobody could have prevented it, but Jumping the Shark is the moment where it's all downhill from there. With Steve gone, there can be no more shows. Alas, that sounds downhill from there. To be fair, there are other shows in which a real-life actor/actress's death is considered a shark jump reason. (i.e. Phil Hartman's death causing the Simpsons to jump)

Why would anyone say that the Crocodile Hunter jumped when Steve Irwin died? It's not his fault he got stung by some stingray! And a real death of a character isn't a pathetic attempt to rack up the ratings. So, I think the show just kinda sucked when the only signature character died. But that doesn't mean it jumped.
I don't think there is any doubt Steve love animals and wildlife.
I expect he saw the things he did as a way to educate people and get them excited about how terrible it would be if wildlife wasn't around.

Australia Zoo was the family business, so Steve was helping himself also. I'd seen him on a few Aus talk shows and he seemed down to earth. He knew he wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed and didn't mind showing it, or making fun of himself. I think he was lucky enough to be able earn a living from something he enjoyed.
Having said that, still don't get how someone dying in real life - not a scripted event - counts as jumping the shark.

Sorry, Carl, but Steve Irwin WAS a hero for wildlife. He did more to help animals that you ever could/ever will. And Bindi, ugly? What the H is wrong with people?
Sorry this guy was a MAJOR A-H! Where, how, who thinks this bozo did anything for wildlife preservation. If anything other nitwits watch this and (as you know monkey see monkey do) they will try it. The animals should be left alone, I'm not glad he's dead but who didn't see it coming. And the wife whoring out the obnoxious, ugly daughter. Maybe she'll drop her in front of a 18ft hungry croc and we won't have to deal with her anymore BY CRICKY! And what the hell kind of name is Bindi? Did one of the aborigines get in there before the ole Croc Hunter, BY CRICKY!
Giving 100% of money earned back to the Australian Zoo can only say that Steve was a wildlife warrior. As his family beautifully continues the legacy that his parents gave him I wish them only the best and will continue to support their projects.

Nature shows "let nature take its course" when an animal is in trouble. This is a euphemism for "leaving it to die", even if the animal is not falling victim to hungry predators.
Steve Irwin, on the other hand, leapt into action when an animal was in danger. In case you didn't know, that means an animal got another chance to live because Steve put HIS life on the line.
Steve Irwin did far more to help animals than his ruthless critics give him credit for. You know, those who are outraged that he "teased" and "tortured" and "harassed" animals and ultimately are not at all upset that Steve is gone. Despite their eager villification of Steve, he was kind to animals and actually helped them!
Ironically, people say Steve's "tormenting" of animals got him in the end when in fact Steve was not doing anything to torment an animal when the stingray killed him; he was on the ocean floor and did not see the stingray buried under the sand.
Some people say Steve Irwin deserved to die for irritating animals. Are people truly that evil?! These peoples' enjoyment that Steve is dead proves that the most vicious and cruel animals on Earth are themselves.
How come people are pissed that Steve bothered crocodiles, but don't care that PeTA killed thousands of dogs and cats so they could save money instead of using it to feed and care for these poor innocent creatures who just wanted a loving home? It seems to me that animal rights groups are worse to animals than Steve Irwin was. RIP, mate.
