One joke per character.
The show didn't work. As Jeremy Benjamin below said, the characters only work when they're unknown. Ali G was unknown when he was on the Channel 4 show (Or whatever it was called) and people thought they were in for serious interviews, only to be made fools of. In this show, the guests were too well-informed and that element was no longer there. There was too much banter, and the Ali G character doesn't really have the depth for that. He needs a straight man with a foil.

The show was good for Borat. Bruno was actually an old idea from before SBC got picked up by channel 4. They just changed his clothes & hair and made him gay.
For day one. It is crap, like Borat.
An interesting concept for a show, with several funny episode, but it is now played out. The old saw "you just don't get it" is a meaningless argument to defend any show. Critics of many shows "get it", but just don't like it or are tired of seeing the same thing over and over.
I also love this show. It isn't perfect, but what show is...(maybe Seinfeld)...but it is very very funny.

Go Sacha. Respect.
Hilarious show, even though it has lost its charisma once the Borat movie came out and Americans started going crazy over Sascha. I know some people don't find him or this show funny, but personally, I think it's pure comedic genius!! Respect.
Whose Ali G?

:|
SBC's characters only work as long as they are relatively unknown. As soon as Ali G became famous he switched to Borat and Bruno. After they became famous he dropped them. Thus this series has a built-in shelf life that stops it hanging around long enough to JTS.
Agree with the guest who said SNORE.
That being said, I'll say "cusp of genius." I think of it as the little show that could. But doesn't.
The austrian hairdresser skits are good.
The Borat skits even better.
The Ali G interviews SUCK. Too long.SBC is NOT nearly as clever as he makes himself out to be.It's cute for the responses of his Famous interviewees. It's even BETTER when they don't know it's a joke, BUT-Obviously, not even a good editor helps these segments.
Heard SBC on NPR/Teri Gros a couple months ago and TWICE said he "revolutionized comedy" or something almost exactly identical. I coulda gagged at his arrogance.
I agree with the last post. All the new fans are making the show unappealing to me now. I used to talk about it and no one would even know what I was talking about. I miss those days... It is still an excellent show though.
Its hard to be specific but Borat making surprise appearances has lead to this incredible sudden fascination with sasha baron cohen which made him instantly unlikable in my eyes! i hate it when something is funny the world catches on and everything that made it so funny goes away
One of the funniest shows I've ever seen. When he interviewed Christie Whitman and asked her whether whale poop was a big problem in ocean pollution, I couldn't stop laughing.
Sasha, AKA 3 other known entities, is more of a person than most of you are giving him credit for. You find one person that can do what he does, on the spot, not knowing what the reaction will be from the person being messed with. Find me one person that can interview prestigious people, ask them incredibly awkward questions, and not himself, crack up laughing at his own stupidity! Find me one person that is suave enough to sell himself to various groups of people to allow him to interview them. He even interviewed Donald Trump, even if it only lasted 10 seconds, it was still very clever to get that far. There were, as with any comedy of this sort, going to be a few episodes that could have been done with more flare, a few that shouldn't have aired due to the plot not being as cutting edge as most of his others are. I can understand those that did not like Da Ali G show. I would guess you would be in your 40's and couldn't relate to much of the show, and his words went in one ear and out the other due to your ignorance on the lingo in which he speaks. If you are younger, it is much easier to put 2 and 2 together, and understand the hillarious things he is saying to such amazing people.
I realize it is early yet, but so far IMHO this show has not even come close to jumping !!!! I put this on recently for some friends of mine who hadn't heard of ali g and we were all laughing so hard we were in tears. The British seem to have a history of not going to the well too often {see yes minister/prime minister} more often than not they know when to end a good thing before it gets ruined. Sacha Baron Cohen is comic genius personified.
Ali G is okay, but Bruno and Borat make this show hilarious. Both DVD's are a must for any collection. Soon you too can sing along with classics like "Throw the Jew Down the Well"
