I can't believe the imbeciles above who referred to this show as a "parody of" or "a blatant rip off" of JAG. The shows have nothing in common other than similar sounding titles. And "DAG", in addition to being the initials of its star, David Allen Grier, is also the name of the character he plays. But then again you'd have to watch the show to know that, something the two morons who tried to compare it to JAG apparently never did. Personally, I liked this show and thought it was pretty funny, despite the fact that I'm not a fan of Delta Burke. I've liked Grier ever since his days in In Living Color. One notable thing about DAG is that despite the fact that only a few episodes were shown, it managed to wrap up all of its loose ends in the final episode. Many sitcoms that run for years never get that sort of opportunity.
Let me start of by saying this show wasn't good, in fact it was quite bad, except for one episode. The episode with John Salley was comedic genius. It all started out when DAG's secret service team had a basketball game coming up against their rivals, and they needed an advantage to win, because they always lost. Suddenly a new guy comes in (John Salley) and they immediately add him to their team, figuring he has to be good, not to mention Salley is always telling everyone how good he is. But it turns out Salley is absolutely awful at basketball, but in his own mind he is a great player. The scenes where they are practicing and playing the game are absolutely hysterical, such as Salley was wide open on a breakaway under the hoop for a layup, but instead of just putting it in, he starts a conversation with the rim, when suddenly the half time buzzer rings and he never gets a shot off and he just drops the ball and walks off the court, perhaps you would need to see it to understand just how funny it is, but trust me, i was in tears. Too bad they couldn't come up with any more episodes like that one, because this show was a real stinker besides it.
I turned on this show to get a laugh because it was such blatant rip off of JAG. Boy, did I get my laugh. I was laughing at how stupid the show was. It makes the SS look like a bunch of morons. Thankfully it wasn't renewed.
When I heard about this show and saw the promos, I was thinking the exact same thing as the above poster, but after having seen it 3 or 4 times, I'm pleasantly surprised. It ain't great, but it has some pretty damn funny moments. And several of the supporting characters are very funny and the daughter is a FOX! On another network and/or another night it would be considered a huge success.
This show jumped on Day 1. First, the writers are not supplying the two stars with comical one-liners. Lines that are supposed to be knee slappers come across as meager chuckles. Second, there are too many supporting cast members. This delays Grier and Burke from developing some much needed chemistry. Third, Delta Burke's character lacks that Susanne Sugarbakerish style that made Burke a hit on Designing Women. It may be an old gag, but keeping her current project's future in mind, someone should stick to what they are good at.
This is a great show!!! I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it is (although I adore Delta Burke and think David Alan Grier is good, too), but it is absolutely fabulous. Burke and Grier have terrific chemistry on camera.
All we need is one more show about the president and politics!!! Isn't it all crazy enough? Making fun of it has even lost its appeal.
I saw the pilot for this show as part of an online review. I gave it the worst possible rating I could because it is just awful. The premise is that everyone in D.C. is a moron, including the U.S. Secret Service. They have a lot of great talent on the show, including David Allen Grier, but nothing could save this crap. It has got to be the worst idea for a television show since Cop Rock. They lost me in the first few minutes when the Secret Service agents were having a whiney argument over their cufflink microphones. It was painful to watch the rest of it. It just kills me to think the same people who approved garbage like this were just like those who canceled Sports Night. If nothing else, it shows where the true morons are in charge.
Let's take a look here. Its title is either the star's initials OR a spoof of JAG...pathetic any way you slice it. And remember the Shirley Mclaine/Nicholas Cage movie with the same plot? You've got Oscar winners who couldn't pull it off, and you're going to try it with David Allen Grier and Delta Burke? Nope.
