1 of the best shows ever
Great show!
Nice ties with the following real life events...
Kennedey and King assassinations.
Another example of network shortsightedness. Riding on the coat tails os the X-Files, this show would have done well. But these executives are way too quick on the trigger when it comes to ratings. Some of the best shows in TV history started their first couple of years near the bottom of the list only to make a rapid rise with 'the water cooler effect'.
I sincerely doubt it, but I hope some of these exec's read these posts. Way too many good shows are being pulled these days before they even get a shot.
I should have known it would end in a mess as saw that Wolfgang Hohlbein was the author...He is a german writer and I have read many of his books and he tends to use so called "unpredictable" (which are very predictable when you know his writing style) twist...like the grey who aren't the real fiend after all.

But the premise was really good...till they jumped the shark with Lonegards (nice name by the way) little vacation to vietnam. This was the most irritating, unbelivable and cheesy episode of the series...after that everything went downhill there was less history, more conspiarity and when Kimberly bekame hive, nothing could be salvaged.
The series was meant to depict events from the early sixties to the year 2000 (which at the time was still in the future)but it was cancelled after the first series and it was still the sixties. If they'd known the series would be cancelled they should have ended it with Bobby Kennedy learning about the Hive and sharing the same fate as his brother. (Taken took place over a similar period but they did it all in one series.)
Definitely jumped the shark when Manticore was destroyed and the show became the freak hour. I will say, Alba learned to act in this show. I too cringed at her first season when acting was only a pout. But by the end, she was doing pretty good. I hope she finds more roles now that she knows what she is doing.
Great show on so many levels...
Despite the excellent premise, this show jumped the shark in development with its preachy Baby boomer mentality. It's just not acceptable to say that assassinating JFK, RFK, or King, the Vietnam War, plus lots of LSD, the Beatles, Vegas, Women's Lib, and Manson were tragic or fun while they lasted. This show thinks that the 1960's was the zenith of Western civilization. Also, corny episodes where Loengard meets Jim Morrison (who can only talk in sentences that are redacted from Doors lyrics) in Venice make this series seem like a bad road movie. Forget about Dark Skies and see the even older U.F.O. It has the same plot as Dark Skies and the X-Files only the bad government conspiracy MIBs are the Good Guys. Why are they the Good Guys? Because the dummies who would buy into Dark Skies would start panicking and screw up the country if they ever found out about the aliens. Point proven.
OK, so the last episode was a mess, but this is not the finale that anyone working on the show would have wanted, only the network who destroyed a great show.
Who exactly is "the wife"? Do you mean Loengard's girlfriend? For your information, she didn't "become an alien" so much as give up the struggle to control the thing in her head which had been torturing her ever since she was first abducted, and which she had done her best to ignore for his sake. She felt forced to do this because she was convinced that Loengard had been lying to her and she saw no future for herself or her child if she remained loyal to humanity's cause. This, in my opinion, makes her unique among TV heroines because there is no possibility of redemption for her once this choice is made. Her name, by the way, is Kimberly Sayers and you should remember it.
There was no jump. Contrary to popular belief, the last show - which did bite, by the way - was forced by the network. Due to imminent cancellation, the writer found it necessary to wrap up as many loose ends as possible and still leave enough to spark a tirade of support for rearing the show. It didn't work. As far as the aliens... The show was based in history and the history of what aliens look like is "E.T." All those who've heard of Roswell raise your hands. The show, with non-network-intervention, would have swirled to a great climax.
This show never got a chance to get off the ground!
Once the wife (can't remember her name anymore) decides to become and alien. Oh, please, like she fights against it for so long and then suddenly she can be tricked into thinking she'll lose the baby if she doesn't become an alien harborer? And the last episode was just so lame it's not even worth mentioning.
The five-year time line concept of telling about a conspiracy of aliens involved in the current events of the 60's to the year 2000 was a great idea!!!! Too bad this show had nothing else to offer!!!! Why did the aliens have to look and act like butt-heads!!!! From "Independence Day", to "X-files", to "ET", and "Close Encounters", the aliens always resemble the same stereotype model!!!! Unforgiving!!! C'mon, I laughed at the series when one human was puking a parasite from his mouth into the mouth of his victim!!! Dark Skies failed because of weak heroes, bad acting, wimpy villian/aliens, and getting way too close to history's past VIP's!!! Where's David Vincent when you need him??? If one had used the time-line concept of "Dark Skies", the humanism of "The Invaders", The alien villians/special effects (but leaving the Nostradamus crap out) from "First Wave", and the paranoia of the "X-files", then you've got yourself a series with some decent writing!!!!
