This show would have lasted longer if it were on Comedy Central, or even GSN late night rather than ABC.

Also... why make a new host? Why not bring Cookie to do the hosting, rather than just having him doing background commentary, or voicing the answers for the Jack Attack.
This show never jumped. It was funny, original, and highly creative in a world filled with boring, copycat game shows. ABC was even touting "You Don't Know Jack" as the summer's smash hit. What went wrong?? *sigh!* I'll probably never know. However, I'm glad I've still got the eps of "YDKJ" taped, because I'm a huge fan of the show and of the CD-Rom games that it is based on. It was great to see the differences between the show and the games, and I think that if ABC had given it a chance, it could've lasted a long time and been a veritable success. People, this shouldn't have been on Comedy Central...Then it would have only been another blip lost amidst the other comedies...Being on ABC meant it was fresh, original and totally new to network television. If you think this show should have been on comedy central, you don't know jack!
One of those great shows were the at-home version totally blew away the TV show. And because the TV show came AFTER the at-home version, it didn't stand a chance. Most of the cool features of the original game were not included. The new schticks were not all that good or were horribly repeated. YDKJ the game was mocking, and perhaps slightly evil. The show was just goofy, and didn't have the skills to pull it off. Unfortunate. This had the potential to be a really great program.
I loved all versions of the computer game, so I had high hopes for YDKJ when it finally came to ABC after about 2 yrs in limbo...however, the final product was somewhat disappointing. Many key elements that made the games great were missing (where were the "screws", where you could force an opponent to answer? Gibberish Questions? Celebrity Collect Calls?), and you can't use the same features week after week if you wanna stay fresh and innovative...for example, that whole "$2M Question" schtick got kinda predictable by the 2nd show.
I actually thought the show was hilarious, and that Paul Reubens was very good as Troy, the game show host. I personally don't care what he did in a theater seven or eight years ago. Anyone who bases their opinion of his comedic talents on that incident shows shallowness and ignorance. And to the individual who said that ABC also brought us Pink Lady and Jeff, better check your facts bub. That show was on NBC.
Most of the ideas from the CD game weren't on the TV version. Or actually elements from the TV version aren't on the CD. You can't put mustard in a ketchup bottle and call it ketchup. Put it on Comedy Central or GameShow and call it something else and I might like it. MIGHT.
Paul Reubens close ups, yuckums, what did they use to put the makeup on his face, a freakin butterknife?
I have no idea why this wasnt picked up for the 00 01 season and left to be a Summer time-gap-filler like The Wayne Brady Show. I dont think any game show is bad (its hard for one to be stale anyway ) but some just dont go over the crowd to well ( like the soon to be cancel Comedy Central game "Beat The Geeks", and those 2 quiz shows on Fox from 99 I cant remember, but were good) I agree this show would've probably lasted till maybe 2005 if it were on Comedy Central (although I dunno, ComCen has a rep for killing good shows)!
The show was stupid. It was so it passed funny stupid right by and flew on the "I am wasting my time watching this" stupid!!!
Ruebens is funny and all, but the should've gotten Tom Gottlieb to somehow do the show cuz as we all know, Cookie was the funniest and wittiest host out of ALL the YDKJ hosts. And more likeable too even though he was the biggest asshole. :)
That's correct, I don't know anyone named Jack. Seriously, though, it seems like since game shows have been "nice" to their contestants for decades, now we've decided to change gears and insult them. This might not be a bad idea, except for the fact that neither "Troy Stevens" or the old bag who hosts Weakest Link sound like they really, honestly are belittling the intelligence of the contestants. This guy was an entertaining fag as Peewee Herman, but hasn't done anything good since then. So what did he decide to do? Host a game show. Career kiss of death, "Troy."
Most people may not know this but Reubens was busted by a person from Sarasota High who had it in for Paul. He had made some enemies while president of Thespians as a senior in 1970. We only have the word of the officer. Reubens (t/n Rubenfeld) pleaded "No contest" to the charge. But...if we must take the cynical hearsay as fact, did you know he was watching "Nurse Nancy" and "Tiger SHARK" when he presumably "jumped the shark?" And there may be a new Pee Wee movie in the works. If the world can forgive Slick Willie, they can forgive Pee Wee...
This show with its moron host jumped when the idea left the mouth of the imbecile who suggested that they get moronic pervert PeeWee to host it. I may not know jack, but this show is the biggest hair-ball that has ever been deposited in the laps of the viewing public.
5 minutes after it started! Poor Paul Ruebens isn't Anne Robinson and strives too hard to even be a poor man's Regis.
How in god's name can ABC put this show on television. Today, (July 4) they had males strutting around in women's underwear. Pathetic. Pee Wee was better off playing pocket pool at the porno, for god's sake. Totally unfunny and downright pathetic. I'm ashamed.
