For me, it never jumped, but it came it's closest to jumping when Doogie and Curly almost hooked up in Season 3...
I'm 27 now, so I was 9 when the show first started airing and I honestly don't think the show ever Jumped. I actually remember thinking that it was amazing that they had the teenage main character have sex. I'm still impressed with the show for that groundbreaking choice. Hulu.com has the first two seasons for free download, so I'm currently rewatching them. They're definitely still entertaining, but boy does Neil Patrick Harris look like a baby. Hollywood normally has it's teenage characters played by 20-something actors so an actual teenager looks way too young for their age. (Hear that everyone complaining about Max Casella's age? That's the rule, Neil Patrick Harris was the exception.)
k... doogie howser MD Is AWSUM an if u dis max casella EVER I WILL TRACK U DOWN AN BEAT DA CRUD OUTTA U!!! ya catch?? jk, anyways max is my fav actor so anyting he does if kool, but doogie types HELLA SLOW seriously it takes him a gizzilion minz to type 1 sentence. he NEEDz 2 take sum lessons
I loved Doogie Howser back in the day. I don't remember it JingTS.

(For those who complain that it's too unrealistic for a genius to be a teen doctor, look up Balamurali Ambati...17 and finished med school)
I loved this show...until that tool stole Harold's car!
I loved this show, it was great. I was about 6 or so when it first came out and although I didn't really understand everything that was going on, I still loved it nonetheless. Although it is very unrealistic that a teenager could be a doctor. Gimme a break.
It always makes me laugh to see Max Casella playing Tony Soprano's driver/part-time enforcer when on this show, he was a doofy twerp with an overbite.

What, was that Paul Pfeiffer from Wonder Years playing Little Paulle Germani?
This show jumped when Doogie moved out of his parents' house.
Was it his big cranium that gave him the Doog powers?
This show never jumped. I used to watch every week. We had a saying in my marching band, just before a competition we always said "Do it for Doogie". As for those who don't like Doogie's computer journal, it is technically the first blog.
This show never was all that great, but what really made a hater out of me was the episode where Doogie ended up working (for one day) at a FAST FOOD JOINT...for crying out loud, you're a DOCTOR, Doog!!! It ended up being made worse by Doogie agreeing that it is just as hard, and takes just as much intelligence, to work at a fast food joint as it does to be a doctor. BULLSHIT!!! Why, oh WHY, do SO MANY sitcoms think they have to have a "working at a fast food and it's harder than it looks" episode? Is it because so many who watch this are losers who work at McDonald's? Or could it be that McDonald's sponsors so many of these cheesy sitcoms? It just may be part of an insidious plot by McDonald's on their path to world domination. Everybody thought Ray Kroc's first little hamburger stand was a pipe dream, but he knew what he was doing. He wants to rule the world from the grave, and he is, because of Doogie Howser, the ageless Max Casella (who is, despite all other assertions on this site, 87 years, 6 months, and 3 days old), and Vickie Lawrence, poised to do just that.
Wow, I remember this episode when Vinnie-I-am-older-than-dirt-Delfino (hehe, take that to all the Max Casella-loving 14 year olds) tried on his superman outfit from 3rd grade and it still fit. This show jumped when the Doog was still working on DOS. Too old, and there's no conflict, because seriously, what does a child doctor do when he's all grown up? Oh yeah, still be a doctor.
Okay. Max Casella was only 22 when Doogie Howser first started. Not 38. He's not even 38 now so I don't know what you guys are going on about. He's a phenomenal actor. Why do you feel the need to bash him? He never did anything wrong or even anything that deserves to be chastised like you're doing. Get over yourselves and just accept his talent. But the show...downhill when they had sex. It happens. Some people think that.
Ok, I will admit that if I watched this show now, I would probably say it was terrible from the start. As a kid, however, it was great fun. For me, it jumped once they started doing "very special" episodes about the kids losing their virginity. First of all, their main audience was a bunch of ten-year-olds, so although sex normally helps ratings, it seems that in this case it wouldn't. We all still thought the opposite sex had cooties when we watched this show! Second, they started trying to get serious more often after that point, which ruined the show. A sitcom about a teen genius should not try to be too serious.
I really don't think this show jumped. Vinny was always my favorite character. You have to admit that he looked the age he was playing even if he was in his twenties. I think in '92 he was 24. Max Casella, the actor who played him, is actually very talented, one of my favorites. Also, as far as the computer diary went, just because some one is a doctor, doesn't mean they are a philosopher. He is just a kid, really.
