I absolutely has an almost unhealthy obsession with this show as an adolescent girl. It actually was replayed on one of the cable channels a few years ago. TvLand or some such. It was late at night and once a week. I wish it would come out on DVD! for nostalgia purposes only, of course, I would be first in line.
I was around 12 when the show can out and still remember some of the plots.Chief and his switchblade were responsible for my love of knives. Now I collect vintage switchblades and build custom ones as well.
Too bad it only lasted 26 episodes ,and get this ...it was replaced by the mod squad.
I have always loved this show since it was broadcasted in China in the 80's. I can still remember some of the scenes. I have thought about this show, especially the handsome men in the show, often all these years. I wish I could see it again.
Where can I buy DVD in English version online? I am a Chinese who loved this TV series more than 10 years.
This used to be my favourite show as a 7-year-old. Tremendous stuff. Can barely remember much other than the name and the excitement I would feel in looking forward to it. I'm a Brit so maybe it was aired over here a little later than in the U.S.(?) I was surprised to find there'd only ever been 26 episodes. Seeing some stills from the show brought it all back ...
Loved that show. I ordered the DVD's recorded in the 80's when it played in England from a British company. They only run on my DVD R computer player but I just love seeing them again. Love Ron Harper as Garrison and loved all the rest of them too. Cesare Danova is deceased as is Chris Cary. Too bad. I'd love to see TV Land show this on TV.
To the poster who remembers the pre-season promo for the series, however fragmentally: that promo probably wasn't Canadian. I distinctly remember it as ABC's own. I can still hear the announcer: "Actor -- con man. Chief -- switchblade artist. Goniff -- second-story man. Casino -- jack of all trades." Then followed something about all of them being from federal pens and trying to earn themselves presidential pardons. Sometime after that the promo ended with "Unconventional soldiers -- Garrison's Gorillas!"
It was the second American TV show appeared in mainland China. (The Man From The Bottom of Atlantic was the first one). And it's so American to 0.8 billion Chinese at that time. I'll there are more Chinese who remember this show than Americans.
Has Garrison's Gorillas ever been rerun in the US? It was shown in China around 1980. There were numerous knife throwing accidents from kids trying to imitate the show.
How can anyone remember this show?! I must have been about seven when it was on on! All I really remember was the Canadian commercial with " Chief - switchblade artist"
What a great show. I don't think it ever jumped. I actually have a set of bubblegum playing cards from the show. How times have changed.....my favorite shows Chief creeping up on a German with a knife in his hand. It is titled "Chief bags a Nazi". I don't think a show could get away with that now days.
Garrison's, Jericho, Rat Patrol, Combat!; can you tell I was raised w/brothers? Christopher Cary as Goniff (Yiddish for thief) was my fave, with Solari a close second. Both later did Roddenberry productions (Solari on the awful "Classic ST" episode as a Native American, Cary on something in the '70's; I forget.)
I CAN'T BELIEVE ANYBODY ELSE REMEMBERS THIS SHOW !!!..... I watched it all the time. I wish it as on again on one of these damn cable channels.
This show never jumped and if it was still on it would be just as popular. Based on the Dirty Dozen, Ron Harper played Lt. Craig Garrison who led a bunch of prisoners through WWII, Casere Danova played Actor, the con man, Rudy Solari was Casino, the safecracker, Christopher Cary was Goniff the pick pocket and Brendan Boone played Chief the knife and wheel man. Great Show, has several fan clubs on the net. Check them out!
I remember two of the main players, Brendan Boone played the one they called Chief and Cesare Danova played the classy one, there was a character named Goniff, but I don't remember who played him. It was a great show!
