Never Jumped
Day One
They moved the bar scene
Shark Bytes
In Japan, George Carlin man of much honor. Stupid round eye TV network executives bring shame and disgrace to his honorable name. They must be castrated with ninja blade.
First let me start of by saying that I worship George Carlin. I grew up listening to his albums and have most of them memorized. Sadly, THE GEORGE CARLIN SHOW jumped from day one just because Carlin should never be restricted by the confines of network television. Carlin is an off-hook, no holds-barred, free spirit who has always stated his opinions about the state of the world and is always absolutely correct about everything he says. However, there is no way to bottle this kind of humor into a half-hour network situation comedy. George Carlin belongs on HBO, unfettered and uncensored and that's where he should have stayed.
The writing could've improved but the stupid FOX execs put a stop to that. This is why people in suits can't be trusted and why Carlin hates them so much.
I agree with the posting that FOX never gave this show the chance to jump. I will never forget the episode where George has his cab license yanked over the use of profanity and, at the administrative hearing, after the hearing examiner says that there is no possible excuse for using such language as part of one's job, George hurls a string of insults at the guy that eventually causes him to lose his temper and let loose with (what I presume was) an F-bomb - at which point he realizes he's been had and gives George his license back. George should have been a lawyer; I am one - and I hope that one day I'm able to pull such a clever trick.
I saw a few episodes of this show, it was hilarious. I also realized George Carlin not only wrote funny stuff but had good delivery as well.
I also like George Carlin, but this is how bad the show was. When it got cancelled one of the actors who played one of "the gang" came to work with me in a Ben & Jerry's scoop shop...
Please. Just the fact that someone finally gave a comedy legend, since Redd Foxx, a show qualifies. Anyone who cuts down this show, either never have seen a great comedian, or think half of these shows today, ala Seinfeld, are the ultimate. The problem with this sitcom was they basically censored the show to satisfy the network. George could have gone all out if they would have put this show on Showtime or HBO. Anyone born after 1970 need not comment about this show. Just face it!!!You don't get it!!! And never will!!!
this show was hilarious, they had a setting in a bar scene with George Carlin as a taxi driver. Great humor! I remember when they had the cussing episode and Fox had to digitally distort George's mouth when he was swearing. And the barmaid says "that kind of language is only appropriate in the bedroom..." FOX screwed up big time when they let that show go.
Remember the gang reminiscing about their favorite 60's group "Chocolate Carousel?" Funny! This was one of several great Sunday night Fox comedies (Get a Life, Herman's Head, Oops) that were cancelled before they found an audience.
This show wasn't ALLOWED to jump the shark. The idiotic FOX assholes kept this from becoming a successful show. They didn't let Carlin write comedy like he knows how. What a waste. It ruined him on television and we'll never see him on anything other than HBO again.
To comment on the posting above, George Carlin DID replace Ringo Starr no the other way around on Shining Time Station. The show was a British Production and Ringo was tapped for the part but left after the show was successful. As far as The George Carlin Show, it kinda jumped when they "moved" the bar set around. The show seemed not to be as gritty after that.
This show was never good enough to jump the shark in the first place. I have always loved George Carlin, and laugh hysterically no matter how many times I see the same routines he has done in the past. I even thought his book was hilarious, but this show was horrible! Maybe he had little or no control over the writing, or maybe it was just a bad year for him, but I lost a little respect for the man after seeing this show- he should stick to stand-up comedy, where he's a real pro.
Never did. Dame shame it went off the air. The funniest episode was when George had to plead his case in court for driving the blind guy around in his cab giving the guy a ride, when the guy wasn't even blind. His dog should have been named "Tippy", like his dog from his routine, but who the hell cares. A classic that will never die. And to the asshole who said George replaced Ringo, well I have to tell you it was the other way around, dipshit. George couldn't stand kids anymore and if you look at kids today, you can tell why. Long live Carlin, the true "Godfather of Comedy"!!!!!!!!!!!
