Never did. Was always funny...a pleasure to look forward to and then it was dumped...signaling the downward slide of network tv. Maybe it's the network that jumped the shark with the last episode of G&L?
Very cool show, networks should never be allowed to cancel anything with Bob Newhart. Judd Hirsch and Bob made a great odd couple and the writing was consistently on par. How i miss the good old days before every show on CBS had to have a fat guy with a hot wife (or Ray Romano).
Day 1. I've been a big Bob Newhart fan for 30 years plus. Judd Hirsh - welllll he's OK. But, this was a show that never should've aired. The concept was weak as was the comedy. Even the episode where "Carol", "Jerry", and "Howard" (and "Mr. Carlin" too?) guest starred did not help one the cause one iota. Apparently the network didn't think much of the show either, putting it on opposite of Monday Night Football.
Never jumped! Show was too wonderful, funny and inspired and a great hit for Judd Hirsch and Bob Newhart after the fiascos of "Bob" and "Dear John." Every time Leo said, "Las Vegas,,,,,,,,,,,, Nevada." He cracked me up every time. My favorites were the Cameo Show and the Halloween episode. Why CBS didn't hold on to this jem is a testament to the idiocy of that network.
It never jumped. Great writing, great cast. Newhart's timing & Hirsch's style were a delight. CBS should never have let this one go. I hope someone picks up the episodes in syndication. (I missed two, and each one was so precious!)
THIS WAS A GREAT SHOW THAT NEVER HAD A CHANCE. BOB NEWHART IS A NATIONAL TREASURE, AND CBS DID NOT DO HIM JUSTICE--HE AND JUDD HIRSCH WERE GREAT TOGETHER! IT JUST GOES TO SHOW THAT ANYTIME THERE IS AN INTELLIGENT ADULT COMEDY, SOME NETWORK MORON WILL YANK IT AND PUT ON TRASH. I SWEAR, MY DOG IS MORE INTELLIGENT THAN THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE PROGRAMMING DECISIONS. I THINK WE NEED TO HAVE A CULTURAL REVOLUTION IN THIS COUNTRY TO COMBAT THE FORCES OF EVIL THAT PUT CRAP LIKE "FAMILY MATTERS" "AMERICA'S FUNNIEST VIDEOS" & OTHER MINDLESS MATTER ON THE AIRWAVES. IT'S CALLED THE "OFF SWITCH"...
Never jumped. CBS never gave the show a chance. The thing that really aggivates me is that i was looking forward to seeing the new baby, and seeing George and Leo as Grandparents. I also wanted to see how long George's relationship with the college professor would last.
I can't believe George and Leo is cancelled. I'm 14 years old, and I love the show. I like Newhart on Nick at nite too. I thought George and Leo is the best yet. I'm so mad that it is cancelled. CBS STINKS. They were stupid to cancel such a great show!
Never Jumped, wasn't given enough time. In fact this show was backwards shark jumping the entire time it was on. The earlier shows were weak but by the end of the season Bob and Judd and the rest of the cast were in the swing. Too bad the network exec weren't watching. I don't think G & L jumped, but in any case I think it deserves to be listed because, even though it was UNFORTUNATELY only on one year, it was a great show starring some of tv's biggest and best performers. Bob Newhart and Judd Hirsch were great. Julia Sweeney (from SNL) was very promising, and Jason Bateman had the best role of his career.
G & L is a great show. Years from now it will be shown with regret that it was not given a longer run. It should have been on long enough to jump.
Never! It was a terrific show that wasn't allowed enough time to ever jump because CBS is stupid and canceled it. It was funny, adult, intelligent, and had the best cast on TV this year. It would have been a hit, had it been allowed another season!
Although it only lasted a year, due to the poor judgment of CBS (The Nitwit Network), George & Leo was always well-written, always funny, and had a magnificent cast, including two of TV's finest performers, Bob Newhart and Judd Hirsch.
