One of the funniest shows EVER! I was in high school then, but my mom was an avid watcher of the show as well. Chuck Barris was a fool! I remember one segment when Gene Gene The Dancing Machine came out, and Chuck took off on his dancing slide out of camera range. When he came back he was dancing around so hard, that he was missing a shoe! He then pulled off his jacket and lost the other shoe! It was one of the funniest thing I'd ever seen. Love the bad acts, and loved the fact that an act could hit the jackpot: Cheryl Lynn, anyone? :) Ahhh...the 70's! :)
From Palmetto: [Jumped with] The Embryo Twins. Two guys in only diapers, bonnets, and bibs; inside a gigantic dry cleaning bag "amniotic sac"; with several feet of clothes dryer vent hose "umbilical cord" tossed over the top; singing Paul Anka's "You're Having My Baby".

Why isn't this showing instead of American Idol?
Weird, goofy and occaisonally hilarious! All I can say to those two redneck girls licking down those rainbow-colored popsicles...WILL YOU MARRY ME??
I wish they would bring it back. They should put it on cable so they could do anything they wanted.
NEVER JUMPED! My favorite act? When an elderly lady came out it a "sexy vampy evening gown" and bopped her hips to the orchestra. Just as she started to sing "Forget your troubles,c'mon get happy..." her FALSE TEETH FELL OUT OF HER MOUTH ONTO THE FLOOR. AAAAHHHHHH!! Hilarious! How can any program that would air this EVER jump? Hello Smithsonian!
When it became obvious it was nt about 'talent' at all..some of better would get gonged and the really bad would not;what they thought was funny was not
I haven't seen this show in years, but it was the funniest show on TV back in the late 70's. I was in high school at the time, and remember howling with laughter with all the antics. The Unknown Comic, Larry the Villian, Gene-Gene The Dancing Machine, and the dubious 'dirty sock' award at show's end.

My favorite moment was the 'Banana Twins', and watching Jaye P. Morgone trying to swallow the gong.

Too funny!
I could not agree more with the last poster. This show should be released on DVD box set. I was around 14 when this show came out. During summer vacations, my friends and I would stop playing outside just to see this show. We were the neighborhood Gong Show cult. Loved the bad acts, would imitate Gene the Dancing Machines moves, and we would clap our hands with Chuck Barris. This show will never be duplicated because of political correctiveness in TV now.
This was the greatest game show ever created, bar none!!! Jaye P. Morgone with Chuckie were the best. As for the acts, I liked the horrible singers, Scarlett & Rhett, and the ever-loving banana sucking girls the best!! Please powers-that-be release this show on DVD!!!
Nice to know I haven't lost my mind: I really DID see George Carlin on Chuck Barris' prime time TV show back in the day, come on and just stand there, doing and saying nada, for five whole minutes. Wonder what the story is behind that?
Anyone remember the running gag where Chuckie would try and sing a duet with this black girl - I reckon she worked on the show - and they called themselves 'Herschel and Begonia'? She'd invariably curse him out and they'd go to commercial.
non stop stupid humor that captured me every night and let me escape from the real world. Never ever jumped!
"Nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public."

-Chuck Barris
Jumped when it came back on in the 80s as no Chuckie means no Gong Show and without JP, Jamie Farr, and Artie Johnson as judges!
Wow!!! Another favorite show from my childhood. You could not have a show like it today on tv. Somebody would get offended by a skit & call for a boycott. Because we are way too serious & oversensitive in this country today.

Show is a classic. Does anyone know if it is available on DVD?
