Good show overall if you cut out the scenes with that annoying Max (i.e. yelling "Mr. H!" or "Mrs. H!") and scenes with that dog in it. I remember at some point the real-life actor playing Max died so thankfully he was no long around to bark on screen, and then I think the show would have been better had the plot lines not worn out by then.
Hart To Hart never JTS. The mysteries were well-paced; were never campy and had just the right elements of humor and intimacy. In the wake of the popularity of the "Batman" and "Wonder Woman" TV shows, it's too bad that television never could create a fantasy series that featured married couples living double lives as superheroes. Hart To Hart will undoubtedly become the inspiration of such a proposed series for many an aspiring screenwriter who didn't see enough plot development in "The Incredibles".
"Jonathan!"
I think this is a great show. It never Jumped the Shark.
Considering he was the CEO of a diversified, multinational corporation, Jonathan Hart rarely went to the office.
I absolutely adored this show when I was in high school. Jonathan was the perfect husband--he was a gentleman, a romancer but treated his wife as an equal. he was the "catch"..
Too bad tv today has to have married couples fighting all the time. tv should be escapism--I guess the genre won't work today
This show was shown in The Netherlands in the mid 80s. Well, what can I say: it was 'innocent' in a way.
Kind of liked it. It suddenly stopped (at least in Holland) while it was still pretty populair.

Well, the innocent side of 80s TV
The show was perfect, because it was a little bit of everything but not to much of anything.
There was a "perfect world" familiy, but (no pun intendet) without all of the "hart to hart"-talking which are typical for Familie-Shows like the Waltons.
There where love (lots of love), a little bit erotic but no sex (an most importantly no cheap sex!)
There was a little crime and murder, but not one of those cop shows where half of the times they are staring at some body or have a shoot out with some gangster.
There was live-style but not so over the top like in Dynasty...the Harts don't have to change their clothes to eat something.
There was humor, but it was down to earth humor not the sillyness we would find in a comedy.

They had their stupid episodes and unintendet comical ideas (like the pistol in the secret compartement of Jonathan steering weel), but overall it never jumped.

About the Baby issue: It was good they they didn't do it in the original series. The episodes where stand alone stories and a child would have inevitable changed that. But when they picked of the series again years later they should have written one or two children in the script. Come on, they where dimming the light at the end of every frigging episode...they must have repruduced at one point.
Ah escapism. Sometimes I think you like a show coz you are too young and your whole experience of the world is limited, therefore if something comes along that you have never seen you wonder at it and think its the s***.Then when you look back because of that first experience you have fond memories hile those older than you thought you were utter crap. Well thatsaid as mad and crazy as it was it will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart. HART 2 HART in my heart get it
This show never jumped the shark. The show was super corny--but it knew that. It never tried to be something big and grand. It was a lighthearted, lightly written romantic adventure series that catered well to the natural chemistry of Powers and Wagner. Plus it was just about the only tv show on the air at the time with a positive portrayal of marriage. Look at what else was popular at the time: Dallas, Dynasty, and Falcon Crest. Long live the Harts!
While there was never a true JTS moment, one thing about the show that really irked me was Jennifer Hart's high maintenance personality. She did everything she could to avoid getting down and dirty like her husband. The second episode comes to mind. They are in Mexico and need to swim across a lake to get to safety. Is Jennifer's concern to make it across as quickly as she can. Nope? She doesn't want to get her hair wet. Now that's high maintenance.
'Jumped when' Stephenie Powers cut her hair and it turned red.
The poster who wrote that Freeway got $2000/week to wake RJ up by licking his balls was right -- when Max found out the dog was getting $1000 more a week than he was for doing the same job, he left the series.
Loved this show and I enjoyed every episode. There had been some fans who wanted Jonathan and Jennifer to have a baby. I am glad that the writers never did that. That would have been dumb and jumping the shark. A very pregnant Jennifer could not have gone on their adventures nor would anyone want to see a baby place in danger every week. The writers did right in not doing that.
This was one of the five best shows EVER and oddly enough not very good. The writing was junky, the continuity lousy but the show was pure magic.I mean who is going to believe Jonathan running around in a trenchcoat, fedora and cigar calling himself Sam Spade and believe him?Did anyone ever notice that in television they often jank out the headrest's on cars? The station wagon Benz was always missing them in the front(to better see the actor's and fit camera's)but who does that?Big tidbit:The four-door Rolls in the early episode's was not a real, working car.Sure it ran but had no top,was never seen with it up and had no side window's!Someone simply chopped off the roof to make it seem like a rare Rolls.Let's not even get into canopy bed's that steer into curves all by themselves.......GREAT SHOW!(Shark exempt to me.A rarity...can get away with anything!)
