I don't understand why people try so hard to argue why a show would suck. If you don't like it, fair enough, but don't go freaking out to people who actually liked the show. Too much arguing for something that can be left very much alone.

That being said, I don't think the show ever jumped. The relationship between Tim and Jill is probably the most "realistic" marriage on tv. Nowadays, it's either the extremely mean, (borderline verbally abusive) wife with an overly nice husband, or vice versa. Tim and Jill could be mean, but also were able to tease in a joking manner, and the other person didn't get overly sensitive with each joke. The children had typical problems, but they were still fun (Mark becoming 'goth' was unexpected though). The thing is that this show had a balance between comedy and taking notice of serious issues, and that made it entertaining to watch.
I love this show! I hated it when the kids started growing up though. I got sick of Brad and Mark pretty quick as teenagers. Oh and by the way THERE CAN NEVER BE TOO MUCH WILSON!

One thing I didn't like about the show was that Tim never really gave Jill a break. What the heck? "I hate you because you're a chick."

And apparently, the actress that played Jill wasn't payed as much as the other actors on the show.
I have to say, this show wasn't great, but please quit comparing it to crap like family matter and full house!! Seriously! Besides, it was ranked the no.1 sitcom for a very long time, and it was the only good show to watch before they decided to ruin TV with all of the crap like simpsons and family guy. Be glad that they still play this on tv! This is all we have left!
I agree with RealBigEZ here. People who take so much time to bash shows like this have a big problem. This show never forced you to watch it. You got loads of channels to satiate your "hip" tastes and yet you spend your time trashing this one? This was a fun show from start to finish. I vote it never jumped. However, in my opinion the show lost when JTT left. It did not lose its quality (hence it didn't jump), but I had a strong feeling a sizeable amount of those who watched this show were fangirls of JTT. I remember mentioning this show more than twice and each time the girl I was talking to only talked about JTT and not the show....
Classic. never jumped the shark for me.
The "band" were "the boys from K&B construction"...they were on maybe five or six times. Can you tell I watch this show a lot?
Perhaps I'm off base here, or too analytical. But to me, season one was a wonderful show. Then, something went horribly wrong. Maybe it was the writing, maybe having children in a non-cartoon show (they get older....animated kids don't). Tim's character was supposed to be half-dad/half-Bob Villa. Instead, he was always using his "show" as a forum on life, and self-improvement. The Wilson character was a one-trick pony that got repetitive. Anyways, the real jump for me was that group of fat middle-aged men (don't remember what season, sorry) that were on Tim's show acting like a rock band, playing things like gas cans and saws. That and when one of the kids was using drugs was the death knell. I did like Al, though
We can all agree that this show was ridiculous, but that is why it was so good. At least you could watch it in front of your kids, which nowadays the only channel kids can watch is disney channel and some nickelodeon. I actually tivo the reruns to watch at night, because the networks simply refuse to air family programming, and if I have to watch another rerun of hannah montana or suite life my brain may seize up. I really wish that someone at the networks would realize that families do watch tv, not just 20 somethings and old people. We need shows like this.
Home Improvement technically never jumped because it never reached anything even close to a peak. It epitomized the sitcom cliche of dorky-acting macho pop and uptight sensible mom. Why can't the roles ever be reversed? Just once I'd like to see a mom spending an outrageous amount of money on classic car restoration, while the dad frets over the kids' school problems while preparing a nutritious salad only he will eat.
I never found this show funny. It tried too hard and often was just another bad sitcom in the same vein as Family Matters, Who's the Boss?, and Full House. Glad it's gone.
I actually liked this show, so nyah! Home Improvement was among the last of the actual good shows before we wound up going into the dark ages of television. You know what I mean: reality shows, pop-culture references ad nauseum, politics being rammed down our throats, etc.
You idiots (especially Nick) are way over analyzing this show. Trying to break it down into typical TV stereotypes. Who gives a damn. Every sitcom (even the edgy ones) followed some of the same sitcom standards. If the show sucked so bad, why was it ABC's top show even up to when it went off the air? Because it was one of the last true shows aimed at families before Reality & Shock TV destroyed the networks. No one forces you to watch anything, so quit bitching and turn the channel. biggest batch of online bitches that I've ever seen in my life. Do you guys nut evertime you let off an insult or something. Is that your fetish? I'm betting most of you are out of work, overweight, living at home with their parents losers.
I think it's funny how people insist this show sucks when we have garbage like Family Guy and the new Simpsons on the air. At least Home Improvement had stories instead of pointless and random jokes, and shock humor just for the sake of seeing how far you can go until you wind up going too far.
Home Improvement may have been the last prime-time network show shot on videotape instead of film. The format itself jumped the shark with this sitcom. Since 2000, every scripted program has been shot on film.
I can easily say that i grew up with this show. it was one of the few sitcoms my family made a point to watch. it fit easily into the bracket of my age when it was not lame to watch sitcoms with your parents. anyway, we stopped watching when i became 13 or so. but since then, its become an obsession with me. roommates, friends and girlfriends all lose a little more respect for me as i find myself genuinely laughing and defending the show. I know why it got canceled and i know that everyone on the show thought the storylines were terrible after awhile. but after ditching work today and watching the "Believe it or not" episode, i officially found the first episode that had NO redeeming quality at all. Granted the show jumped the shark before then in little ways but this was by far the worst episode made. It had no moral, it had no laughs and a ridiculous premise that was even asking alot from dedicated viewers.

Wilson tells tim that he once saw a UFO and Tim blabs it to everyone. Instead of going to the normal angle of honesty and friendship, the whole show focused on Alien life and the facts behind it. It even went as far to make a really unfunny parody of the X Files. You could see the wear and tear on the faces of the shows stars. They knew it was over from here on out. Anyway, that is officially the most i've ever written on Home Improvement and i just want to say that i've died a little inside.

thanks for your time
