Most of the comments posted are right on.Obviously written by fans who,like me and millions of others,have seen each episode hundreds of times and never tire of them.The greatest T.V.comedy-bar none.Incredible acting (except Trixie,sorry)and writing.Simple plots brilliantly staged before a live audience.The side characters were also very good,especially George Petrie who was in the most episodes,Alice's mother("I don't doubt the bills are high,but how much of the food are you getting?")Also one timers Velma the maid ("Some guest and some employer-the simp and the blimp"),and Harvey("You're a real wise guy.I don't like wise guys")Even little Harvey Walstetter,Jr.with his one classic line"Gee,I didn't know Davy Crockett was so fat." was memorable.One scene that always gets to me is near the end of the episode"Opportunity Knocks" when Ralph says to Ed:"Norton,I'm probably the luckiest guy in the whole world to have a friend like you.You're one of the nicest guys I know".To me,that came across as Gleason's true feelings for Carney.And then when Alice kisses Ed and Ed is visibly flustered,well that brings a tear to the eye,I must say.I live in southern New Jersey and the show hasn't been on for years and I miss it.Just curious,is it still shown in New York?..Some other classic lines:"Leave it there the cat'll get it." which was an adlib.."I brive a dus.I dus a brive".."I bet that guy had a rotten barber!"..."Get the bag"(after Ralph thought Ed was nuts with his"small details").."My grandmother never did it!!"...Maybe the phrase just fits."(when the camera went from a closer in shot to a wide shot showing Ralph's full physique).And of course,as a response to Ed's question,an exasperated Ralph's best delivered line:"I don't care if you burn." So if someone told me that the Honeymooners jumped the shark,my response would be "Har har hardy har har."

"Lulu...Lulu!" Swanee River! "NORTON!" Oh my God, I just bought the classic 39 on DVD and I can't wait to watch. Never jumped!

Lets be serious folks, This could easily be considered the greatest show in T.V history! The entire series was based on 4 phenomenal characters and basically taking place in 1 room. Genius!! The synergy was unmatched,the storylines were hysterically simple and in the end of each story there was love between all the characters.The classic "39" would be all I would need if I were ever stranded.

I dub the guy two posts down as having the best comment about Ed Norton in the world. The Honeymooners never jumped, never ever, ever. The relationship between Ralph and Aice was superb, I won't go into it because it's been said a hundred times. The relationship between Ralph and Ed was so touching it pulls on the heartstrings. Norton is simply the sweetest person I have ever seen on television. He is true: too simple-hearted to bypass his love and devotion for his best friend because of such things as the fact that Ralph shoves, snaps at, insults, drags around, and turns his back on Norton all the time. He loves him, as it has been said here before, like a dog loves his master. And Ralph's reciprocation is as devoted. No matter how many times he throws Norton out of his apartment, no matter how many times he smacks him for taking too long with everything and making dumb remarks, Ralph trusts him completely, knows that he will not be offended by what he does. Norton irritates him to no end. Interestingly enough, Norton doesn't seem to irritate anyone else as much as he irritates Ralph. When Ed is around, he, in Ralph's words, "drives him nuts", raising his ire constantly, provoking him into decidedly degrading verbal and physical abuse of Ed, and convincing a psychiatrist that Ralph will go mad if he doesn't break off their friendship. Ralph almost has almost a--for lack of a better word--crush on Ed, (though undebatably un-romantic and non-sexual, Alice is Ralph's whole universe and everyone knows it).

LOL The Honeymooners wuz the gr8test evr! So funny, and Norton was sweetie! I wundr why they dint put an episode wher Ralph gets sp mad he kills Norton, and gets all sorry he did it! Alice wsa really hott, I wantd 2 see Ralhp do her in the ass when she bent over the stovve!

I believe this is the one show that never, ever, ever jumped. Jackie Gleason was a genius, he canceled the show after 39 episodes, he knew that a show that fabulous couldn't go on for long without having to get cheapened. The characters are the most alive, the most striking, and the most lovable characters that have ever graced television, the likes of which have been matched only by the early-seasons Simpson family. Everything is perfect, no one but Jackie Gleason could pull off miming puching his wife in the face without a single hint of nastiness, and no one could deliver the deadpan reason and wisecracks of the unflappable, sharp-tongued Alice in response. Ralph and Alice are probably one of the the sweetest couples in history, with their infinite, unquestioned trust and care. And Norton? Well, there has never been, and never will be, a person like Ed Norton ever again. There is not a person in the world who can do the tiniest quirk of Norton without messing him up completely, only Art Carney's genius can hold him, he is possibly the funniest, and yet the most touching characters that have ever been shown on TV. Love unconditional and absolute loyalty are traits that he possesses in such quantity and quality that the greatest of movie heroes pale by comparision. I won't even go into the spectacularity of the rest of the show, it's been done too perfectly by another person on this page, so let me just saw this once and for all: The Honeymooners is the greatest show in history.

I remember that! (Gotta think there was just some guy at the studio firing randomnly regardless of when the caller said "Pix")

Anyway, when I was a kid and was supposed to be sleeping, I'd sneak a little 1-inch B&W TV I had under the sheets with me and watch the Classic 39. It's brillance was in its simplicity, which allowed us to concentrate on the tremendous talents of the cast. Audrey Meadows was spot on. Art Carney is just a freagin' hoot. And Gleason. Well he's just The Great One. Could make you bust out laughing one second and have you in tears the next. To this day, I've NEVER experienced another performer who could do that - at least not as well as him.

While there are many incarnations of "The Honeymooners", from the early 50s Dumont episodes to the full color extravaganzas of the 60s, I'd have to say the "Classic 39" never came close to jumping. It never even got near the water!
While some episodes are better than others, every one is laugh-out-loud funny.
The chemistry between the four stars is unrivaled to this day.
Watching Norton react to Ralph (and vice versa) is pure comic genius.
Which is not to say Alice didn't hold up her end either, she did.
Trixie had the least to do and was seldom featured.
So many classic lines:
"Hello ball!"
"Can it core a apple?"
"How'd ya like some fingers up your nose!"
"Bang! Zoom! To the moon Alice!"

BEST FRIGGIN SHOW THEN, NOW & ALWAYS!, no moronic sitcom can ever touch the honeymooners 39, no way no how! ralph & norton will kick there ass! nuff said.....

Oh it can core a apple! The original 39 never jumped, they are ALL priceless and i wish someone would start a honeymooner religion, actually, i think i will. we'll meet sunday mornings at the racoon lodge. This sunday's sermon will be given by Joe Rumsy.
