The show jumped the shark when they got Dawn from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" playing Penny in the movie.
Therefore reminding us how "Buffy" was a way better show, and how we should have been watching THAT as kids instead.
Buffy would have killed Doctor Claw, MAD Cat and every single MAD agent in the first episode.

Dr. Claw's voice actor changed only for a few episodes in the first season. This was NOT in the second season! The episodes "MAD Trap," "Basic Training," "Gadget Goes West" and "The Coo-Coo Clock Caper" had someone else voicing Claw, and I admit it sounded horrible, but this was because Frank Welker was unavailable to do voices for those episodes.
In an internet search for more information about Inspector Gadget I discovered that there were several sequel movies and series to the original series. Some were more faithful to the first season than others. Gadget and the Gadgetinis was a sequel with the same artwork and tone as the first season of Inspector Gadget and it was also made in Canada. For some reason the further away the production team is from Canada, the harder it is to get the tone of the series right.
The movie Inspector Gadget 2 was the best incarnation of the series. Inspector Gadget 2 was fun, smart, and had great visuals.
The first Inspector Gadget movie was a nice try, but it missed the fun.
The first season episodes were fun for the viewers.
The second season episodes were apparently fun for the actors, but not the viewers.

The show showed promise in the first episodes. It was never developed properly.
The show was changed so much in the Capeman episodes that it made me ill, like swallowing a cup full of sugar and salt. The artwork got worse. The animation was just passable. It was not even the same show. It hurt to watch that season, hoping it was just one episode that was bad.
The movie Inspector Gadget 2 proved that Inspector Gadget is entertaining only when the right people are writing, directing, producing, and performing.

At one point, the Inspector Gadget show turns to time travel (it's been in syndication for a while now, hence the use of present tense) and they run with this storyline for a few episodes (Caveman Gadget, Ancient Rome, 19th century Britain). However, they never got around to making more than a handful of those episodes, and I would've liked to see more of the time machine.
Why did they have to update a classic cartoon? What drugs were these people on? Why change the gadget mobile into a piece of junk? Why do i have so many question marks? I'll tell you why -i'm pissed off with these morons who create the "gadgeteenys" The old Brain & Penny were amusing, nowadays i just want to send her to the orphanage and him to the pound.
This show jumped big time in season 2. EVERYTHING (and I mean everything) changed and the show went from brilliance to mediocrity. Probably the most notable change was the complete change of voice actors (including Gadget himself) and the addition of Cap Man as Gadget's assistant, who did a "Scrappy-Doo" to the show.
Apple sponsored the first movie so this simply was a commercial for the Mac. The show started to decline when the Inspector Gadget game appeared on Playstation 2. I don't watch it anymore since DiC is a slave to Sony and Apple.
Inspector Gadget NEVER jumped the shark. I can't believe there are people on here who have the nerve to diss season two also. Season Two made way to some funny, fresh ideas. Episodes were categorized by sets of three; these three episodes had the same theme: Les Reknown, Thelma Botkin, Null and Void, Professor Dumkoff, Dr. Spectrum, Great Wambini, and Capeman's initial arrival. Capeman may not have been the best thing to arrive on Inspector Gadget, but he was at least somewhat comical. Besides, he was not in every episode for a Capeman overkill. True fans of the series will notice that he's not even in half the episodes of the season. Voices changed, but that does not kill a cartoon series. (The Real Ghostbusters did the same thing, and the series continued without loss of popularity.) Cartoon voice legend, Maurice La Marche took on many of the roles that the great Frank Welker left behind. Holly Berger was a great Penny. The animation was NOT poor in the second season. In fact, take a look at episodes such as "Gadget and the Red Rose" and "Gadget Meets the Clan", and you will surely see that the animation is FAR from poor. Haim Saban and Shuki Levy continued the excellent music that was heard from the first season. (I must admit that in some episodes, the music tends to be lower, but that doesn't affect the quality of the overall product.) To wrap it up? This show NEVER jumped, and it is just as funny now as it ever was.
I get a kick out of the people at this site. Did any of you, and I mean ANY of you happen to be watching this show when you were kids? CAUSE IT'S A KIDS SHOW!!! Never jumped, except perhaps with the sidekick and all. My point is that you people need to try to remember what you liked as a kid, and not pretentiously analyze everything from your negative adult points of view. And by the way, just wanted to say that I had a huge crush on Penny when I was a kid, she's hot!
This has got to be the most REPETITIVE show in the history of television! It's like every episode is a carbon copy of every other episode, and they wouldn't make exceptions, even for humor's sake. Would it have killed them to have the good Inspector actually solve a case on his own, even just once?! Or have the "secret message" self-destruct somewhere other than on Chief Quimby (narrow miss, perhaps?) Or how about one where the Penny and the dog don't show up at all? Sheesh, I guess "variety" was never in the producers' vocabulary, was it?
Inspector Gadget was a cool show in the 80's in it definitely never jumped the shark. I always loved how he uses his gadgets to stop the MAD Agents from the evil Dr. Claw, of course he does acts stupid at times but that how he is at this point. With her niece Penny and there dog Brain, they help gadget out and search some clues by using a magnetic computerized book. It was so funny I used to watch this on Nickelodeon everyday and taped every single episodes out there. So for people who complain on this board, GET A GRIP! It's a really cool show no doubt about it.
I loved this show when it was first on. My friends and I used to have big arguments over whether Gadget was a cyborg, an android, or a robot. We also got a Gadget doll and checked him out to see if he had an extendable dick (he didn't). However, I quit watching when Penny's voice changed. I couldn't stand the replacement. I never even got to the sidekick episodes.
