...and Wendy Richards in unfeasibly small costumes "she is so common you know"! "Woe, woe and thrice woe"!
This show is pretty funny. Definitely better than Benny Hill, maybe b/c Frankie Howerd, an old Brit comedian been around forever, is v. appealing as the hapless Lurcio, always being sent on some ridiculous errand for his philandering Master and Mistress, and is always trying to tell us some mythological story, but gets interrupted. My local secondary PBS station plays this late nite Sats after Blackadder, it's funny in a dated way, there are always a bunch of hot slave girls in late 1960s hairdos.
This Britcom (similar to A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum) was from the Benny Hill school of "leer and letch", and would probably have jumped were it not for the hilarious performance of Frankie Howerd (king of the "Oooooooooh" take). Howerd played Lurcio, a Roman slave who's attempts to tell a story never got beyond the Prologue, as he would be interrupted by the (usually sexual) misadventures of his owners.
