This show has never jumped the shark.

Reading Rainbow remains as one of the most beloved programs that I recall from my childhood. LeVar Burton has done a wonderful job over the years, encouraging a love for reading and, most importantly, making the show easily accessible and entertaining to young children. I remember first seeing a RR segment on "Little Nino's Pizzeria" and begging my parents to take me to the library to check it out. This show was so effective in the way they presented the stories, and I absolutely loved the narration. Some of the most recognizable names in entertainment have provided narration during the series' run, though most children probably wouldn't realize that fact until much later.

But this show succeeds because you can tell beyond a doubt that to LeVar Burton, Reading Rainbow is less a show, than a chance to bring a love of reading to generations of children. I wss a young boy when I first watched RR, and I am almost 25 now. When my children reach the age of understanding, I hope that RR is still there to encourage a thirst for knowledge.

The day that this show is gone, will be a truly sad day indeed....

The episode where he had these asian drummers playing these huge drums and they would like switch drums on the end of every bar. That and the one where they showed how you can make paper out of your old jeans.

I also think the original theme was way better than Chaka Kahn's version.

Jump the Shark! Classics just don't jump. This has been the most intelligent show ever produced for kids that kids like to watch. I just read that it won another Emmy for best kid's show in 2007. The show has changed over the years. When the show started there wasn't much competition. Now there are hundreds of kids shows out there yet Reading Rainbow gracefully continues onward changing here and there but keeping it's heart. What other shows can say that? Whenever I talk to someone who watches/watched the show they don't say "Great show." the say " oh I loved that show." It's like a friend on a rainy day. A trusty blanket when it's cold. And when it's a new show it's like a new toy on Christmas morning.

Even as an adult I used to love watching this show. The theme song was an opening to the world of imagination. When I was out of work for a period of time I decided to turn this show on and was immediately repulsed by the god-awful new theme.

its a ok show i HAD to watch it in 2nd grade evryday evry1 loved it i might not now that im a lil older but its eduactional and u know i hate cartoons but this isnt bad

Reading Rainbow never jumped! Although I did like the original theme song better, LeVar really made this show and he's just as great now as he was when this show first started running. I've been watching this show since i was three or four. What's sad is that the show as we know it is about to end. They couldn't get funding to continue making new episodes and the show has just been bought by a new company - they're replacing the creative team. I hope they don't replace LeVar... the show wouldn't be the same without him...

I want to write children's/teen's books someday and it would have been a dream come true as an author to be featured on this show. An HONOR. Whoever doesn't like it is probably a lunkhead that doesn't like to read anyway.

There was an episode of Reading Rainbow that I saw when I was a kid. The host was eating in a diner run by goat people. I have to say that it was one of the worst experiences of my childhood. I had nightmares for weeks!

This show never jumped. Educational shows don't jump. I just wanted to mention that I caught RR the other day (new episodes still running) and Levar Burton doesn't age. I'm in my mid twenties, and I watched this show in elementary school, and somehow Levar still looks exactly the same. What's the deal with that?

This show was one of the best children's series ever created. It encouraged kids to do something they hardly ever do anymore....READ! It opened my eyes to the magical world of literature, a world that may soon be lost in this technology-dependent age. LeVar Burton was the perfect host. He is an articulate, intelligent man (an excellent representative of the African-American community, by the way) who really cares about educating children. Now, you'd think a show about reading might bore kids, but it doesn't. It connects books to the outside world, creating themes and places to visit. There was never any of that Pokemon cartoon violence, it was just a simple but brilliant concept. I hope that when I have a child someday, Reading Rainbow is still around.

c'mon, never. you cynics need to find a hobby. this show is classic. sick days weren't the same without it.

This show never jumped! Levar Burton is the sweetest man alive! And I am glad he still does the show. The thing that was my favorite in the show was the opening theme song, and the butterfly during the theme song. The show now is different, and they should have kept the old theme song, it was more kick ass than this new one they have. One day recently, I tuned in and I saw this old-school rerun where he went to some custom jacket place and got this funky rainbow colored jacket with a colorful big parrot on the back. It was weird because it was something cool back when I was young, but when I saw it recently, it kind of tripped me out. But the show is great, even though the old school one was more kick ass, hopefully this show keeps going strong.

The show jumped when they had the Star Trek Special. It was nice, but the show implied that its ok to be a treekie. The show was good education and was kind of fun.
