Its funny that on one episode a charactor named dean said that he thought you have to be ten or eleven to be a grownup. All 'growed' up(the special) was cute because even though it showed what they looked like when they got older, it didn't say that that epsiode was little more than a dream, hence it is not much more insight to what they would look like as they got older. the show...was one of the biggest shark jumpers that I have ever seen on a cartoon. Not to mention that the rugrats cartoon made the charactors get older but 'talk dumber' (i.e. dipey vs. diaper). The show was great before it started to look like something that disney spit up, or messed up in the case of doug but thats not what I'm here for right now. The old episodes were great, showing the flaws in everyone from old to young, rich to robbers, then it got too un rugrats to stand anymore.
Rugrats fell in the post haunaka (sorry if misspelled) special. After that the animation changed David Doyle died and the show was dumbed down significantly. I still watched it but I stopped indefinitely after nancy cartwright became chuckies new voice. Yes I have no life! lol
Dil brought change too. Kimi was a new character and she changed at the end of the show. She was more assertive and tough when she was first introduced then she became passive dead weight.
I used too have Rugrats on VHS and DVD
and I was planning on getting more but then it was getting old and so as the show when it was going to be cancelled for good so I stopped buying rugrats tapes gave it all to my sister's children and moved on to it's spinoff, All Grown Up and got the dvds of that show.
If Ren & Stimpy goes an artist who toots his own horn... then this does as well., As bad as John Kricfalusi/Spumco..(See my R&US comment son that entry.)

I hate the Rugrats.
Rocko and Catdog were a wise decision to watch than this babyish garbage.
I like Nickelodeon, but only the old favourites.
Although I only saw Catdog and Rocko's Modern Life on ABC Kids when I was young,
I've never saw them in the '90s.
I really find the Rugrats characters dumb, especially Dil.
I can't stand Angelica's voice either.
The All Grown Up series was worse.
I don't understand why people hated Dill so much. I always felt like he ADDED to the show. In fact, he was my favorite character. All Grown Up is what did them in.
They jumped it bad with "All Growed Up", because they destroyed the mystery of what the babies would look and be like as adolescents. Yes, it was only a dream sequence, but the damage had been done regardless. There was no going back...Just as well, because they went and made "All Grown Up" into a stand-alone series (which bombed).
i use to love that show.
and ever since Dill and Kimmie came,
it got really dumb. i wish they
would have showed the old episodes
so maybe it wouldnt have been cancelled.
they only showed the newer ones after
a while. like a month ago, i was watching The Rugrats on VHS and there
was this part when there was iceskating
Reptar and the people were singing, "REPTAR REPTAR GOTTA FIND THAT REPTAR." haha. i loved that show.
I remember when dill came aroound the time of the movie I was still quite young then but even then I could tell the show wasnt as good, Dill didnt really do anything exept annoy/upset all the other charachters, and then when kimie or what ever her name was came I had stopped watching by then
I will ALWAYS love the rugrats, but I think it really jumped when they started really changing the drawings, but at like six years old I didn't relize anything, as long as I was laughing
I've been thinking about this for a while, and it was my favorite cartoon as a little kid, and I've come to realize that the real shark jump was not with Dil, but instead, when David Doyle died and they got Joe Alaskey to do Grandpa's voice. Now, Joe wasn't a bad voice actor (he was great as Plucky Duck on Tiny Toons!), but as Grandpa? No. He was too happy and complacent, whereas David had a definite cranky streak that suited the character. Like others have mentioned before, the coming-back of the show in 1997 was more dumbed-down and had fewer clever in-jokes, but it was the voice change that really signaled the beginning of the end.
i liked the movie a lot, i think it really jumped when that all grown up came it just went too far
Personaly, I thought kimi was unnesserary, it was nice to see Chuckie's dad get married but I don't think we needed Kimi, but it was All Grown Up that killed the show, like Dil changed from a cute little baby to stoner who belives in unicorns. and speaking of him Dil did not kill the show it was a mixture of Kimi and All Grown Up ya dil-haters
See, now, i liked Dil. I didn't think the show jumped there, allthough it did get different a lil bit. I also think that "All Growed Up"(the special) was brilliant, but "All Grown Up"(the show) killed it. They took it one step too far, and it was just stupid and unneccessary.
Definatly When Dil came along.

One thing I miss about the older episodes was when the Babies had all these adventures, seeing things through their eyes. Now Dil comes along, and the episodes were all about keeping Dil out of trouble, or watching Dill fart and poop every day.
