Jumped with the end of this season! No Lex Luthor anymore!?!? Why bother with another season? Season 4 was prettty lame, but other seasons okay. Might help the show if they have Kara on more! She's a babe!
Are you kidding me? This show has been garbage since they killed off Clark's father. The writers are mailing it in since their target audience is about 16 years old now. Watch Supernatural, that's a kick-ass show!
This show hasn't jumped the shark. IMO it's getting better all the time. With limited Lana next season, no Kara to make Clark look like an idiot and with a villain (Doomsday) that could possibly kill him and make him a hero, I think season 8 is looking VERY good. Other good things are Clark is suppose to work @ the Daily Planet, more Lois & Clark scenes, Martha Kent to return for at least one episode, Martian Manhunter to return, new JLA members, Clark learns a new super power, rules broken (no tights, no flight) and the most important thing; the attractive cast. Erica Durance/Lois Lane is the reason I started watching the show in the first place. That girl is SOOOO HOT!
Maybe it was meant to be the junior apprentice show but was fused with Smallville and THE 23-24YR OLD BILLIONAIRE WAS THINKING OF HIRING.
While the show has been a decent drama series, I think one major weakness has always been the VERY VERY ambiguousness with which they treat the characters ages. In the early seasons, the characters RARELY act or appear even close to their H.S ages. Maybe it doesn't bother everyone, but I just have trouble getting past that point. A 23-24 year old billionaire, worldly beyond most his age, consistently palling around with a bunch of 14 year old kids? A 15 year old sophomore co owning a business while going to high school and still having time to be a part of the "mystery" solving team...
I know it's a superhero show and superheroes are larger then life people, but this show jumped when in the course of one season why have three WWE wrestlers. Batista, Kane and Ashley. I know the WWE has a show on the same network but come one.
When they introduced Lois Lane. I cannot stand Clark and Lois together, but the writers cutting back on those scenes in season 7 does give me hope that I am not the only one who senses that pairing is not working out.
She is too old for some of the characters that they pair her with, and looks really out of place on the show now that she is the only older cast member left. I liked her the most in season 5 when she had scenes with Jonathon, there was chemistry there. But pairing her with Grant or Jimmy is just a strange choice, take a second look at those scenes and you will see what I mean

Thank the Lords of Krypton that Lana is leaving the series. The relationship was overblown from the word go, Kreuk isn't that good of an actress, and the on-again, off-again relationship had been worn out and should have been abandoned when they graduated from high school (probably where it Jumped the Shark). The should have sent her off to college. Lex can revert to an occassional character - the interesting transition from conflicted young man fighting his dark side to full out evil has been completed. Time for Lois to be played up (and leave the awful Lara in the Phantom Zone, puh-leezzzzzze). As long as Alison Mack is there, the series has some hope of continuing, but I think the concept is played out.
I don't think Smallville has jumped quite yet, and it looks like I'm in the minority here. I know everyone's sick of Clark/Lana. And I know everyone wants to see Clark become superman, fly, put on the costume, forget about Lana & marry Lois, etc. But keep in mind.... That show's already been done - with Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher. Smallville's producers are trying to give us a new spin on the Superman mythology... One that hasn't been done before. And I applaud their efforts.
With all that being said... I've heard season 8 will be the final season. And with all the expected changes, the show will definitely have the opportunity to render itself completely unwatchable.
But I'm hoping we'll get to see everything we've been waiting for as season 8 progresses and the show comes to an end - Closure with Lana and a transition to Lois, the rise of Doomsday, getting a job at the Daily Planet, and maybe some surprises along the way.
I guess we'll all just have to wait and see.

I must disagree with mkon74, the show is actually pretty mediocre. Season 7 didn't suck but wasn't all that good either. Overall S7 was OK. It started great but then started to go down with a bunch of pointless filler eps but started to pick up towards the end. The best eps were Bizarro, Action, Gemini, Descent (mainly for Lionel Luthor), Apocalypse, and Arctic. All the others were either good, OK or just pointless. Also I GUARAN-DAMN-TEE all of you that Clark will chase Lana AGAIN and we will have to go thought the same BS that we've been watching for the past 7 years! Ending Clana is now 3-4 yrs overdue now Smallville! When are you going to get it though you heads that hardly anyone cares about their relationship anymore?! I also feel that there dragging the show on more than what they need to. S7 would have been a good time to end but apparantly they want to continue the show but for what? I mean is there anything MEANINGFUL left for the show. Though I must agree mkon74 on one thing. S8 will be on barrowed time. I don't like to make early judgment calls but I just think that Season 8 will suck. I really do. Smallville was good but come on the show doesn't need to be on for this long now. plus this is more of a teen drama/soap opera than it is an actual story about Clark Kent in the early days. Chris Nolan needs to re-boot the Superman series like he did with Batman and us fans got such an AWESOME movie in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight will be even greater. We need an actual story about Clark Kent than one where he obsesses over Lana on a regular basis and give Clark some dignity back. But if Smallville ever gets re-newed, PLEASE PLEASE bring back Alicia Baker. She was such a fantasic and beautiful character. Koudos to Sarah Carter for such a awesome protrayal!
It's still a good show, but they are starting to whore themselves out a bit with the product placement. The episode with Pete's return was obvious with the Stride gum, but did anyone notice how they now will have closeups of items (cell phones to name one) with the brand name clearly visible?
I think that when Michael Rosenbaum leaves, the show will be on borrowed time.

heck no allison mack isn't leaving! they already have michael rosenbaum and kristen kreuk leaving, and just yesterday i think they announced that alfred gough and miles millar, the creators of the show, are also leaving by the end of this season as well. that is A LOT of people going!!! if allison mack leaves, then that will leave tom welling as the only remaining original cast member.
I have a strong feeling that Season 8 is going to truely suck! I know there going to introduce Doomsday and a female villian but look whose all leaving Lex and maybe even Chloe! My expectations for S8 are not very high
TV Guide reports Chloe (Allison Mack) may be out at the end of this season. Now I may be in the minority but Chloe is my favorite character. We already know Lois and Clark's futures. Chloe is an unknown factor. With her gone, I don't know. It already feels like Smallville is ending and a show with just Lois & Clark...well I already own Seasons 1 and 2 of that show. Hopefully the CW holds onto Chloe.
