TEMPESTT jumped from day one. This talk show was dull and lifeless and this is from someone who found the character of Vanessa on THE COSBY SHOW one of the more tolerable presences on that show. This talk show was generic and had no special gimmick or stamp to make it unique. It was a cookie cutter talk show that brought nothing new to the genre and died a quick and merciful death.
Oprah gets credit where it's due. But didn't the tanking of "Gail", "bertice berry", and "rolanda" signal anything to Temppttesstt's producers? I haven't even yet mentioned jenny jones, rikki lake, leeza, sally jesse, carnie, luci arnaz, not to mention Montel, Maury, Jerry Springer, and any other shit talk show from back then that was lowering the average American SAT score.
A defining moment for this awful show: some brother in the stands up and speaks about God-knows-what in a faux-Barry White voice. While some of the idiot women in the audience mutter "mm-hmm, yes, girlfriend" approval, Bledsoe turns to the audience and says "Don't he got a nice voice, though?" It was at that exact moment that I wished that the entire world would explode, killing everyone on it, BUT ESPECIALLY Tempestt Bledsoe and her studio audience. BTW, what was up with that name, were her parents hoping for a porn star in the family?
Whose idea was it to have 'The Cosby Show's' whiny, adenoidal middle daughter Vanessa (okay, the performer who played her) have her own talk show? She may have been tolerable ( in the early years especially) as someone for Cliff and Claire to react to but have a whole SHOW with her as the focus?! She was over her head from the moment this started and NO ONE took her pontifications the least bit seriously nor were they even worth a feeble chuckle -even unintentionally. I mean, if neither Rudy nor Olivia thought her input was worth listening to why would any ADULT think so ( I know, I know they were all performers following scripts but Tempestt's lectures reminded me of a little girl standing on a chair during Sunday dinner trying to tell the grown ups in the family what to do and oblivious to all her parents', aunts', uncles' and grandma's mounting aggravation). After ten minutes of hoping Cliff would show up and tell Vanessa 'We're going home and when I tell Mom what you tried to pull off today, you're gonna to be in a TON of trouble, Girl!' When that didn't happen, I gave up. . .and NONE of the talk show fans at work bothered to watch this a second time so I wasn't surprised that it was cancelled in a few months but were there that many people with broken channel changers and off switches still watching ?
