TENSPEED AND BROWNSHOE was a competently mounted detective drama that no one really saw despite some decent stories and the wonderful chemistry between future film star Jeff Goldblum and former Broadway star Ben Vereen. I feel lucky that I got to see Goldblum at this stage of his career because he turned out to be a superb actor who has chemistry with just about anyone he works with. I saw Vereen on Broadway in PIPPIN and still scratch my head as to why this man's career just came to a standstill, even long before he had that accident. TENSPEED AND BROWNSHOE was a mostly undiscovered gem that never had the opportunity to jump the shark.
Wow! Can't believe I'm not the only person who remembers this show, because I swear it's not seen the light of day for like 25 years. I LOVED this show -- the two guys played off each other wonderfully. Wasn't it on the air just before the big heyday of detective shows (Magnum, Simon & Simon & all the ripoffs)? Ah, yes, just ahead of its time ...
Goldblum was young and fresh, perfect for the role as clean cut, black belt, accountant/detective. And Vereen was very believable as the con man partner. Too bad it didn't get the chance to jump. I'd love to see it in re-runs.
Amazing that this site is so thorough. I was very young, but as I recall there were only a few episodes of this very funny show released. It was never given the opportunity to jump the shark...too bad really. The acting was great and the chemistry between Goldblum and Vereen was incredible. My wish for this Christmas; skip the "It's a Wonderful Life" marathon and run the Tenspeed and Brownshoe series in its entirety.
The idea of a gawky, nerdy accountant kicking behind with some serious throw-down karate used to kill me! This show never jumped!
I'll never forget what Alan King said about this show (I'm paraphrasing slightly): "Tenspeed and Brownshoe. Best ratings CBS ever had for a new show. Top Ten every week. Then they pre-empted it, and pre-empted it, and pre-empted it...Never seen again."
I was absolutely amazed that this show is on the list. I really think only 3 or 4 episodes went on the air. Is there any show in the history of TV that is not on this website?? ... I am going to look at the list again ... if that show Chris Elliot did that was on for like 5 minutes is on this site I will freak
A truly funny show... one would think that with Goldblum's popularity some cable channel would at least air the few episodes that were produced.
Never jumped--not even close. Had what was easily one of the greatest pilots in TV history, mixing Nazis, the mob, hard-boiled detective fiction, and sitcom logic.
Didn't see TENSPEED & BROWNSHOE on the list...although I don't think anybody actually saw it when it was on TV! Short lived detective/comedy show starring Jeff Goldblum ("Brownshoe") and Ben Vereen ("Tenspeed"). Years before the "streetwise black cop/nerdy white cop" genre hit the big screen. Not sure if this show was on long enough to have even gotten close to the shark, let alone jump it. I remember loving it though.
