Jay got better - it was most noticable during the writers strike - and he has kept that edge since the strike. I do love how he jokes during the monologue about not stepping aside when its Conan's time to take over.

I think Jay Leno and TTS has gotten a lot better recently. Jay has started to lighten up and tells much more edgy jokes than he used to.
It may have to do with the fact that he got fired and is being replaced by Conan. Now he's a lot funnier. He should have being doing this years ago.

Jay must have picked up some new writers. His monologue is way funnier that previous years. Also seems more relaxed as his contract runs out. After years of pointless corporate pandering on his part, great to hear him ridicule Nothing But Crap (NBC) for its inability to field good TV. Couldn't happen to a nicer network. However, the quality of his guests seemed to go downhill after the writers' strike. His interview style still sucks. Jay does better when interviewing politicians or pundits. Sometimes he asks better questions than the Beltway Boobs. Some talk out there that Leno might take his act over to ABC. Even with Jay's shortcomings as a host that network could use the help.
Jay has a one track mind and subsequently is a horsesh!t interviewer.
Every one of his interviews eventually turns to discussion of his guest's sex life. Heck, He even asked a 10 year little girl "How's your sex life?" She just looked confused and embaressed. Shame on him.

Lately, Jay has been using clips from Inside Edition in his monologue the same way Jimmy Kimmel does.

When that big chinned douche stole Stuttering John from Howard Stern the show went downhill fast. It pissed everyone off how underhanded Jay went about making the deal behind Howard's back. Stuttering Traitor didn't help things either by covering up for close to 6 months then giving his 2 weeks notice while they were on vacation - nice, real nice. Anyways, Leno has been stealing bits from Stern for years like Jaywalking = Homeless Game and Ross the Intern on the red carpet = Stuttering John's old gimmick. Leno develop your own talent for a change you con man rip off artist thief!
I agree with the previous poster. And I'll go further: along with Leno, forget Conan, Letterman, and the rest. They're all the same, just bad copies of Johnny Carson with the same old schtick night after night.
When Leno finally leaves it, the Tonight Show needs someone altogether different, a real talent who can bring something NEW to the late night staleness that Leno and the rest leave behind.

Anyone notice how the monologue seems to have gone back downhill now that the writers have returned?
Right on, David! And Leno keeps implying—sarcastically—that he isn’t writing things down, but how is it that his eyes are always darting to something next to the camera, as they’ve done since before the writers’ strike. Could that be a. . . .cue card??
To the poster below David: Being a "stand-up" doesn't give Leno license to be offensive. Ask Michael Richards. Leno has a deep hatred for Hillary Clinton, without a doubt. And he’s terrified of his audience. A serious handicap for a “stand-up.”
One of the funniest stand-up comedians of all time in my opinion, Richard Pryor made fun of everyone equally, white men & women, black men and women, and himself, and if one is offended by his language, every one of those words can be deleted, and his stuff is still hysterical—and not one bit offensive.
