Underdog jumped because its animation was often mistaken for a Jay Ward cartoon. In fact, Underdog was a production of Total Television, even though sound effects from the Ward catalogue were occasionally used. Perhaps some of the writers and technicians were employed at Ward Studios while doing Underdog.
Jumped when they released a live action movie. Why isn't the movie listed as one of the reasons?
proudliberal, get a life. How sad you cannot find enjoyment in one the decades most enjoyable and innocent cartoons. Your anti-semitic slur barely deserves comment itself it is so pathetic.
Growing up on the south size of Chicago in the 70's, I got a big kick out of Riff Raff.
Never jumped- it's a classic.
To Steve Carras:

There's a sensible reason no one until you had mentioned the movie. It's not part of the show! It's completely after and separate from the show, and has ZERO effect on the jumping of the television series.
Simon bar Sinster is Not an anti-Semitic slur. He's based on John Barrymore, Mr. Potter from It's a wonderful life. Sheesh.
I'll add another category/reason--

THE MOVIE!!!

Maybe it is due to legal issues of the librayr of music created for the 1964 series and maybe the American Federation of Musicians (which prevented any music credits back then to boot) but the Disney film out now on this could have at least used Buck Biggers, Jack Pleis and Herschel Burke Gilbert's music cues at least and animated the character.

I mean, we got up to June 2007 and yet no comment on the movie?

Glad to see that Universal's "The Bourne Ultimatum" (and with overall take WB and sister New Line's respective "Harry Potter" and "Hairspray" and Disney/Pixar's "Ratatouille," and another Unviersal, "I..Chuck and larry",and others killed it at thebox office).(Even though U'dog reached #3,it is a new movie for the week.)

At the the new Bourne film that open up at #1 is based on a recent franchsise andc has the same lead actors (Matt Damon, Julia Stiles even though it took about 45 minutes for her toappear) & Joan Allen. "Hairspray"stayed true to its era; why couldn't Underdog. And gimmy a break (but that is another show).
UNDERDOG A REAL BEAGLE? (yes, that's his breed even back in the show, one of the few connections here) -- all he needs is to is not talk, or do tricks! (Or have any other of the show's characters's monickers but his OWN!)
Question? Just what breed of dog was Underdog? Some friends of mine at work say he IS a Beagle. I say he was smaller like a Jack Russell Terrier or mixed mutt of some kind- but NOT a Beagle. I think they miscast the dog for the movie. What's the vote?
Underdog jumped from day one. The stupid rhyming and the anti-semitic slur of Simon Bar Sinister. Inappropriate for children except in a very bigoted household.
Man who can U say that Commander McBragg was boring? Those stories were a riot! How the guy would try to get away when the CDMR would start (LOL). YES UD rocked!!
"SO it's hip hip hip and away I GO!!"
Underdog was on NBC in 1973 which was, unfortunately, the same year that Wally Cox (Underdog's Voice) passed away; his death was also a void for HOLLYWOOD SQUARES. The remainder of Underdog's Peacock Network run was a fitting tribute to Wally.
One of the coolest, best theme songs ever for any cartoon or any show

Good show. never jumped
"When i stand up straight, I'm right as rain. But when I bend over, there's a stabbing pain." NEVER JUMPED!
Never, never jumped! All the segments were great - but especially Underdog versus Simon Bar Sinister. And to the earlier poster who inquired, "was Commander McBragg the cartoon in which this retired military figure would push his guest into a chair, preventing him from leaving, before spinning yet another war story?" As the Commander would always answer at the close of his segment: "Quite!" :o)
