Does officially being on hiatus and possibly not returning for a 4th season qualify The Unit as jumping the shark? I'm just saying...
This show is horrible. It's very unrealistic, and anyone aware of TTPs used in the military (that stands for tactics, techniques and procedures. if you didn't know what that stood for, take that as a hint that you're unaware of them) in general would think the "action" plotlines are folly. The homefront issues, while often dealing with relevant topics, are so overdone they are not very entertaining.

The conspiracy plot was silly as hell, and thank goodness it's over.

I would have voted that it jumped somewhere in the 2nd episode. The 1st one, although a bit silly tactically, was at least interesting. It has subsequently sunk. I just didn't feel like e-mailing that in, so I went with "Became a soap opera". I voted for that because it was one from the first episode. Now, there's really nothing wrong with it being a soap opera (it fits the definition). It's just a stupid soap opera with bad action based on silly, unrealistic missions and a load of leftist conspiracy.
I don't think it's jumped the shark. While the last couple episodes dealing with a Unit member's death are kinda iffy tv-wise, they're finally realistic military-wise. Not that I disliked the character or any of the Unit members, but I kinda expected it a bit sooner. Dealing with death in the military (even in spec ops) is a major issue, and I'm almost glad they finally touched on it.

The 'Midge' episode wasn't a shark-jumping point for me. I realize that things like that happen and have happened for a long time. I thought it was kinda funny, actually.

If I had to pick a shark-jumping point, it'd be season 3 episode 3 and 4. After all the stuff at the end of season 2 leading up to the total disbanding of the unit and the hunting-down and all that, it took 2 episodes at the beginning of season 3 to solve and wrap up and then with the 3rd and 4th eps of season 3, we're life-as-usual back to normal? Ebbeh?

I am glad, however, that the soldier-wife-gets-swindled-trying-to-make-a-buck rehashed plotlines (real estate, coin, etc.) of season 2 have not come up in season 3 so far. While the homefront stories aren't as cool as the behind-front-lines storylines to me, I still watch the show religiously. The one homefront story that did touch on a hot-button issue for me (in the positive from my standpoint) was where Mrs. Brown's at the radio station and the hippy-ish manager ends up using her concealed carry weapon to save her. (Whatever happened to that guy anyway?) I am a strong supporter of the 2nd amendment and believe that any non black-belt martial artist should consider some means of protection for themselves. It was refreshing to see weapons used for a positive on the homefront as well as their usual depiction on the battlefront.

I've read Eric Haney's book (go buy it if you're remotely interested in military history and/or good reading) and the military/mission parts of the show thus far have stayed true to the spirit of the book. Obviously Eric can't tell everything and some of the shows may be a bit far-fetched, but I don't doubt for a second that they're based on what could theoretically happen.

The Unit is one of my Tuesday night staples and I hope it doesn't jump any aquatic beasts anytime soon. I somewhat agree with all of the below about the theme music. The original (even if it was a USMC cadence instead of USArmy) definitely pumped up the military aspects of the show. That being said, the new theme.... kinda works for the show better. The show isn't all about the military/fighting/butt-kicking, it's about the men fighting for their families and coming home safe. Mr. Haney said in an interview on the season 1 discs that the show is about the men who save the country and the women that save them(paraphrased) such that the new music kinda works. The old one was cool as heck though.
Please bring back the original opening music with the cadence! It used to get my blood pumping! And less of the women please, more military. I like Molly and Kim, but Tiffy is just a waste of air time. Love Jonas and all the guys, except Col. Ryan. His lack of integrity is disgusting. My demographic: female,white,57,married,two children.
I followed the show since the first season, but the Unit truly Jumped the shark with the I'm Midge episode when everybody found out Midge was a man.
One episode (Play 16) with Jonas being all Jason Bourne is iffy. He's too old and too big to be that agile. Be careful, writers. Don't like any of the wives. Like all of the guys.
First BRING BACK THE THEME MUSIC, NOT A CRAPPY RICHARD PATRICK TYPE SONG.

Next, The show is great but a little less "gilrs" time would make it better. More military action make the UNit ROCK!
I thought last night was back to the good unit before they hired drunken chimps to write the last 4 episodes...little combat instead of Jonas' version of cliffhanger...but what the hell with tiffy...i think the effort to incorporate the families in this show ruins it...trying to capture two audiences in one theme
I actually liked the episode when the war-hero killed the two racists.

A bit far-fetched maybe but I also had no problem with it as it was probably what most black people felt like doing to those racists at that time.

Regarding recent episodes, IMHO, it's degrading into a US military propaganda soap opera status at this time.

Side thought: How come CBS appears to be the network that almost always seems to have at least one show i.e. JAG, NCIS, The Unit, Major Dad, Gomer Pyle, etc. (I'm sure I missed a few more from the past) that seem to have been written & casted with heavy influence from a secret location in the D.C. area?
Absolute worst episode last night!!! Personal bodyguards for an fugly whore??? WTF? This season is by far the worst.
Tiffy takes a job as a stripper. The shark has been jumped.
Thanks Matthew [a couple below], I always enjoy it when someone with special operations experience drops in to say how ridiculous this show is. In case you can't tell this is sarcasm. Get a life and enjoy a FRINKIN' TV SHOW!
Normaly I cant stand millitary shows just becuase I work for the millitary and my idea of relaxing isn't sitting at home and watch a TV show about my job. With that said I do like The Unit just becuase for the most part they stay true to actual tactics and techniques so when they stretch a bit I don't mind. For me it's never jumped. And yes the new theem is lame.
The show seems to be a little more fake than last year (last year rocked). Also, bring back the old theme song pleeeesssse! It's not the same show without it!
I HATE the new theme music. Some of my friends had the original theme as a ringtone. How can executives be so stupid?
