Back in the mid 80's Aaron Spelling had an idea for a drama centering around the lives of a group of nursing students. He called the show "Nightingales". It featured a cast full of beautiful young women (including the original Buffy Kristy Swanson and the Klingon woman on Star Trek Voyager) that spent most of the time - not performing nursing duties, but in fact - cavorting around in their underwear, bikinis, aerobics outfits and bath towels. It made me proud to be an American. Of course it was cancelled immediately. But who the hell is the smart one here, anyway? The television viewing audience? No! Aaron Spelling is the smart one here. He did it again. He got a different bunch of beautiful young actresses (like Callisto from Xena) and a different hospital set and a different name, "University Hospital." But bless his heart, Aaron Spelling made the same goddamn show. Aerobics outfits. Towels. Underwear. And again it went nowhere. The man is a Genius. A bloody genius. Someday America will recognize its folly.
This gem in Aaron Spelling's crown was definitely a great show. Four HOT young ladies living together and learning to become nurses! They would study and do rounds and date and lounge around in skimpy clothes. How could it possibly go wrong? How? Did I mention the four hot nurses? Sadly, it did jump the shark though - during the very special episode when their hospital got infected by the plague! Everything was quarantined and the FBI showed up and it was all played out with a heavy hand not suitable for this show. Alas, the show suffered a similar death after not too many episodes, but the memory of the four hot nurses will always be with me.
