Season 4 when they changed the opening music
The show jumped when Dr. Allie Farrow (played by Dawn Stern) left the show. She was replaced by Sgt Catlett (played by J Downing), who had frequent bouts of amnesia. From this point on, the show shifted from being a technological tour-de-force to a law-enforcement soap opera, with Cameron Westlake (played by Heather Medway) used as bait to lure the villains into traps. I started watching this show during season two when Frankie (played by Joe Nipote) used the line "I learned this on MacGyver," and I was hooked by the futuristic edge of the show, where a remote-controlled car could get its crew out of jams. I would have enjoyed Season 3 a lot more had a research assistant replaced Dr. Farrow, caused a few mishaps at first, but gradually got the hang of remotely controlling the Viper. Without the car as the centerpiece, the show gets six thumbs down.
...when the bossy film crews yelled at me for walking down the street in my own city. Apparently they were filming a scene. I pay taxes here and have been in Calgary for 16 years and these Hollywood morons think they own the place. And their show even got cancelled.
Two things about this show. First, big stink when it ended production up here in Vancouver, Canada. The cars were supposed to be crushed (local Chrysler dealers weren't happy about a flood of expensive Vipers competing with their high-cost inventories) A lot weren't. A bunch plus other vehicles were sold by a couple of sleazy characters using front companies. I knew two of the three from high-school. One guy spent 7 years getting a law-degree. Ha-ha. Loser. Second, a neighbor of mine got a great deal on a bunch of Viper parts, tons of parts. Four sets of wheels on rims and V-10 engines for about 10 cents on the dollar. They are going into some Cobra cars he's building. The drive shafts are like 1 inch long. You read that right. As for the show itself, what an embarrassing piece of crap. At least the two dorks I knew in high-school got their come-uppance and at least my neighbor got some awesome tires/rims/engines/rear-suspensions/drive-trains out of it.
"Viper" jumped when they destroyed Frankie's 'Cuda. What a beautiful machine--the purple 'Cuda--and you killed her! What a shame.
A Knight Rider ripoff, but this one had a cooler car...isn't KITT, like, a freakin' Trans Am or an IROC or some other Ginomobile? Anyway, Viper had that CGI segmented digital armour that just appeared outta nowhere like the Batmobile in that horrible movie. The hologram projector was nifty keen. It didn't matter if actors came & went because the car was the focus of the show.
Lousy Actors and writing, did in this one. The only thing that was a saving grace was the Dodge Viper. Note that the bad guys drove different Make (eg, Ford Mustangs, etc) of car. Of course, the show was also sponsored by Dodge, who is owned by Chrysler. That Helped enormously to boost sales.... Too Bad there weren't enough pretty girls* to help out, too. *That's "Race Queens", for all you untravelled and ill educated mofos out there
The producers wanted to continue but Viper got too low ratings because it was shown too late at night and nobody was watching it.
JTS at Day One. Since when does one of the Big Three auto makers gets a one-hour TV commercial? Every car in the show was a freggin' Chrysler product! The bad guys always drove shiny black Dodge Stealths and/or Caravans....WHAT'S UP WITH THAT???!!
When Jim McCaffrey left the show. Jeff Kakke just didn't have the same appeal.
I love the car the Dodge Viper. Its a beautiful machine. But the TV show, stupid stories, bad actors, the car deserved better.
