In a way this show jumped on Day One, and in a way it never jumped. In fact, it's one of the few shows I can think of that showed a slow but steady improvement: the episodes I saw progressed from godawful to just a notch above mediocre, with some real promise for getting good. I liked John Corbett and Steve Railsback well enough to keep watching despite the scripts, which started out rotten but kept getting just a little better with each one. Corbett's character began as a cipher, and was given some truly horrendous dialogue. But by increments they made him more interesting, and Corbett of course is a compelling screen presence. There was also a strong subplot in the last episodes, about Railsback blaming Corbett (apparently erroneously) for some horrible incident in his past. Unfortunately, the show was canceled before we could find out what that incident was.
Spectacular, superior show. Rates up there with the likes of UFO, Invaders. No futuristic species like the TREKKIE shows. Never should have been cancelled and deserves to be brought back.... with the original actors.
The Visitor was and continues to be one of the more intelligently-written sci-fi TV series around. It was unfortunate that it fell victim to politics rather than low ratings. It never had a chance at FOX. The silly man who pulled the plug on the show was later fired. Not only was the writing superb, but the acting. It's a real shame that the only way I can see the show is by getting on a plane and flying to Europe where it now airs in syndication. After its cancellation, the Sci-Fi Channel picked it up for two years. The same 13 shows aired over and over and over with no new shows ever to be produced. John Corbett and Steve Railsback were outstanding, as were the FBI trio. Furthermore, how many sci-fi shows do you see today that are shot like a major motion picture? What were you thinking, FOX? If a couple of producers brought me "Independence Day" and made me mega rich, I'd be kissing their rumps for years to come.
