Blackpool was actually really good...i watched it on youtube...it had david tennant in it!
Having seen the original Blackpool due to a trip over-seas, I can only say that i wish that they would show the original. They won't, though, because hollywood and fcc censors have a captive audience and monopoly here in us. You'll have to take my word for it that the real one,Blackpool, was an hysterically funny little show about a very shady character starting a casino in a dingy, dirty-looking, drab, dull-coloured, grimy, run-down-looking city which was as anti-glamour as you could get. (No offence to the real city, mind you. We're talking caricature.) The 2 (two!) episodes of Laughlin weren't enough to tell conclusively if they had completely lost sight of the dark comedy of the original, but it looked like they were on their way to ruining it. In particular, it looked like they were trying to clean up Cheyenne's character (the not-so-innocent daughter of the casino-owner). All of the characters in the original were wonderfully, delightfully crooked in one way or another -- the casino owner was simply not pretending to be moral. The dirtiest character, in some ways, was the investigating cop. Anyway, if you get a chance, check out the original Blackpool. You'll be glad you did.
I loved this show! It was so bad in an ever so wonderful way....bring it back I have nothing to laugh at now!
This was the US version of the UK's "Viva Blackpool" but I don't think America was ready for it... For some reason, people think "The Office" is great, but they couldn't get behind this one... *frown*
Ok, the show opened with "Viva Las Vegas". It was ok, I just thought it was going to be a one time thing. Then we went on to "Sympathy for the Devil". Not bad, but lets get to the plot. By the time it got to the third song, I changed channels. I knew right away that this show would not last. If I want to se something where people break out into song and dance every five minutes, I will watch "Grease".

I am kind of curious about one thing. If it did go on for a few more episodes, do you think they would have had some Las Vegas torpedos come in and start singing "Breaking The Law" by Judas Priest?
I did get to see the pilot on CBS' web site just after the show got canceled. It wasn't that bad, but the "singing" blew. The opening with them singing "viva las vegas" was done half decent, but the show was viva laughlin so that made no sense. The scene with Hugh Jackman singing with all the show girls? Ever been to Laughlin? There isn't one showgirl in town. And Melanie Griffith's scene singing Blondie...that killed it.

I love going to Laughlin as a vacation spot so was cool to see it on TV. Maybe it should have been given more of a chance (bad time slot for one) but still was not good. What's next? CSI Searchlight?
CBS did the right thing and put us out of our misery. As of Sunday Nov. 4, 2007 this turd will be cancelled. Thank goodness for small things! Now, if ABC can do the same and deep six Cavemen! Why do we have to copy/import lame British TV fare?
There is No Way this show is gonna get a full season. I'm almost certain that CBS was smart enough only to buy 13 episodes as a test to see how it works.. I don't expect them to pick it up for another 13. Lame Lame Lame. :P
I unfortunately saw a bit of this atrocity and I'm still recovering from the horror. The lead actor (can't remember his name; just as well) looked like Josh Duhamel from Las Vegas with a hangover and he had no charisma whatsoever. Hugh Jackman came and went in a Jumpin' Jack Flash. But the worst thing about this show? Melanie Griffith. Singing a Blondie song. With that ever-annoying voice of hers. Ow...my...ears!!! My...precious...ears!!!
Best show of the season, it's like watching a train wreck jumping the shark. I am hooked, everything about it from Melanie looking like the plastic surgeon couldn't keep his knife and botox needle from her face to the songs.
Don't let this masterpiece theater get taken off the air. Remember what happened to the Magic Johnson show, I still miss it.
Did they not bother to run any sort of focus group before airing this garbage? Just shows you how out of touch the networks are with what kind of shows people like to watch. I wont beleive it if this manages to stay on the air for more than a couple of weeks.

This show played jump-rope with the shark
WELL..... SADLY THIS NEW CBS SHOW REMAKE OF BLACKPOOL VIVA LAUGHLIN SUCKS.. COPY OF COP ROCK.. I FEEL BAD CAUSE I WORKED AS A BACKGROUND EXTRA (SLOT MACHINE GAMBLER) IT WAS GREAT SEEING HUGH JACKMAN,AND WAS A FUN EXPERIENCE,(EXCEPT FOR TOLERATING THE SMOKE).. SORRY IT ISNT GONNA MAKE IT.I CAN TELL. I LIKE HUGH JACKMAN BUT THE MAIN GUY BUGS ME. THE MUSIC THING IS NOT A GOOD IDEA. AT LEAST I HAVE SOME FOND MEMORIES OF SEEING JACKMAN LOOKING GOOD.. AND YES I LOVE MUSIC,BUT NOT THIS WAY!
OMG IT WAS SO BAD IT WENT PAST GOOD AND BSACK TO BAD AGAIN...IT WAS LIKE THE GLITTER OF TV....I HAVEN'T LAUGHED THIS HARD SINCE FOREVER...I THINK HUGH JACKMAN HAS A SUBSTANCE ABUSE PROBLEM BECAUSE NOONE WOULD EVER PRODUCE SOMETHING THAT BAD SOBER....I LIKE THAT HUGH JACKMAN'S CHARACTER IS LIKE A SHIFTY GUIDO FROM NJ(I'M FROM NJ I CAN SAY THAT)....CAN'T WAIT UNTIL NEXT WEEKS EPISODE...I BET THE DAUGHTER'S EXBOYFRIEND TORCHES THE CASINO AND SINGS THE SONG DISCO INFERNO
The show blows! Did not jump the shark, merely steam-rolled all over the CBS studio!

Another case of pre mature shark jumping. Several red flags:
1. Copied from a British TV show. I'm sorry, I feel most UK humor is anything but funny!
2. Musical numbers! Add insult to injury, the actors singing along with the tepid hits.
I could probably think of a thousand other reasons why this show sucks. Viva will share the bottom of the toilet along with another failed CBS show from the 70's. Anyone remember the horrid Me and the Chimp?
As with Cavemen on ABC when I first heard about this waste of time and talent, I thought the writers, network and cast were trying to follow the model of the show The Producers. Where they go out of their way to make a show so bad it flops out of the gate and they all can collect on the insurance. There's a new bowl in town:
"THE TOILET BOWL!" It's Cavemen versus this abortion to see which gets canned first and which one is more hurl inducing. Remember Cop Rock and Hull High? Musicals are uncool. Even Fame got lame and old as it wore on.
