Never, ever, EVER change the theme song. Even if you think it is the worst song in the world. There is a phenomenon of repeated airplay that drives songs up the charts.
Liz Phair wrote and performed the opening theme. I thought it strange that her vocals were removed from the opening theme (I believe it was the second episode), because the 'cursed' ditty was the only good thing about the show. [Why was I watching it a second time? -- don't ask me]
When they changed the name from Cursed to the Weber Show". A name change for a show is an almost certain shark jump. Chris Eliot was the only saving grace of this show. He is very funny.
This show jumped when they dropped the whole premise of the show - that Steven Weber had been cursed - and made it into a rip-off of Seinfeld, complete with Weber's ex-girlfriend Amy Pietz (the Elaine character), his whiny sidekick (the George character), and Chris Elliot as the wacky roommate/Kramer character.
When this show started out, it wasn't wonderful, but it was passable and had its moments. It had potential for at least one season. But then they changed the title, abandoned the premise, and made the show a pointless "Friends" knockoff. That's when it jumped the shark. Adding in Paula Marshall's character didn't help, but the show had already tumbled overboard by then.
When they added Paula Marshall, the show became almost watchable. Making her a lesbian was even better -- she had great chemistry w/Weber, but they could only remain friends. Then they took the lazy sitcom way out -- she's not really a lesbian, she's just doing it for an article. Not like the show was that great to begin with, but Paula Marshall did add some class and appeal, and when her character degenerated into a sitcom stereotype, the show jumped and never looked back.
Oh, this show is awful. Yes, it has some funny moments, but every episode has at least one scene that makes you think "What were they thinking?" If this is where sitcoms are going, the future is bleak.
Sit-com suggests a situation comedy. this show has neither. can us stations please stop foisting their crap on australia?
I guess day one. But I still think Paula Marshall is the hottest Brunette guest star on TV. She's Awful purdy. But she could be the kiss of death. Were both Ted McGinley and Paula Marshall both on SportsNight at the same time?
