Shark Bytes

The show definitely changed at the beginning of season 4. All of the episodes were deep, but the show really lost the comedy part of dramedy. Sure it still had its funny moments, but it just wasn't the same. I guess most of it just had to do with Kevin getting old, and most of the jokes from the early seasons were Kevin's imagination and youthful ignorance. It jumped the shark, but it was still a great show. So I guess this really should be labeled as a drama; the comedy is just a result of his youthfulness. An interesting thought. No matter what, this was one of the best shows ever written. I only wish that it was on DVD already.

Hey, how do you know Kevin and Winnie never got back together years later....he could have divorced his wife, or she could have got hit by a bus...who knows :P

Kevin's dad Jack was a grouch at times, but most of the time he was nice. He was just human. By the way, Jack was a type A personality - he was too wound up and not laid back. He needed to spend some time on a commune and learn to chill out.
The episodes about Karen made me feel the most nostalgic because she reminded me of myself when I was young. She was just trying to pull away and leave home - there was nothing wrong with that.

You know I kind of like the way this show ended, and I hated it too! I like that they don't end up together in the sense that it seems a bit more real. But at the same time, it's infuriating!
After all of that "Winnie and I always saw eye to eye." or "Winnie and were a couple." or "Winnie was a part of my past and I was a part of hers." I mean after all that we end up with this:
"I was there to meet her when she came back. With my wife and first son." Why was Winnie even in his life then??? To teach him things about life and love???
It seems like he was only meant to be her friend. Alot of really hot, smarter, braver girls could have been his! They were there hitting on him and practicly begging for his acceptance, and he passed them up!!!
He pissed off Becky Slater(again) He told off Madeline(If I had a girl wanting like that, I would go for it in a heartbeat!)And he kept trying to get back to Winnie. He was obviously meant for other girls. So when you think about it, he ended up with no one at the end! No Winnie, Becky or Madeline! That's actually quite funny! He had all those girls attracted to him and kept passing them up for Winnie, and then they didn't get together and so he had basicly no one!
His friendship with Paul had already pretty much disolved, Wayne was just his dimwit brother, and so he had no one!!!! Although we never find out who Paul ended up with. He had Carla Healy once. Kev did get a happy ending in other ways though. Ofcoarse if they ended up together, the show would seem a bit less dramatic. We probably wouldn't feel the drama as much in the scenes such as the car crash or where the buses part ways. I also wonder if the uncle that was mentioned in "Swingers" was also the one who was said to have gotten Winnie the job at the resort.

The first 3 seasons where just ok but then the rest just went down on top gear.

Yes, the parents behaved realistically, especially considering the era and the fact that supporting and raising three children is never easy. The only thing I couldn't take about the show was that Winnie was so whiney.

I have recorded all episodes from ION to DVD and cut out commercials on 10 DVD's. Quality is decent. I'm happy with them.

I know we all hope ION will bring TWY back soon, but where I live ION consists mainly of paid programming all day and all night! They will play the my network movies and local news, but other than that, 48 Hours, Drew Carey, Wayans Brothers, Mama's Family and Who's the boss haven't been on at all! They were just talking about putting up new shows soon! Maybe why it's paid programming and no shows, is because they are working on their lineup. I hope ION isn't gonna stop! Has anybody else noticed this???

Once again, I tried to keep this short, but once you awaken a giant... All right now. Jack Arnold may not have been the best father, but he was a good father. He cared about Norma and the kids. He did the best he could. He busted his hump every day down at Norcom so the Arnolds could have the things they needed ("Bare Necessities" from the Jungle Book is playing in my head as I type this). He wasn't necessarily cheap; he was practical. He wasn't insensitive; he was misunderstood. Chauvinistic? He was a 60's dad. He had certain expectations (not totally unreasonable) of Norma which were semi-representative of the era. I only wish more women these days were the housewife type. That's another topic for another time.

Here are a few examples of why Jack may have been perceived wrongly:
1. He fought in the Korean War. We're just lucky the kids didn't have a curfew of 0800 and had to put military corners on their beds.
2. Norma's parents hated Jack and wanted her to marry a different boyfriend.
3. Norcom was a really stressful work environment for Jack.
4. Karen Arnold.
So understandably, these factors contributed to Jack's character.

In closing, I would like to say that Dan Lauria is one of my favorite actors to this day because of his portrayal of Jack Arnold, and I said years ago that when I had children, I hoped that I could be a combination of Heathcliff Huxtable, Mike Brady, and Jack Arnold.

For some reason, I hated the father! He just seemed like an insensitive, chauvanistic, boderline abusive jerk. I hated the way he treated his wife and his kids.

Aside from that, it was a great show. I wish there were more shows on TV like this today.

Has anyone noticed that some of the music has changed in the reruns...there seems to be a lot of generic music. In episode 66 "The Accident", during the scene at the roller skating rink, 'Tears of a Clown' has been replaced by another tune. Does anyone know what that tune is called

I remember when this was on Nick at Nite. I miss it. ABCFamily and ION ran it so briefly.

This is funny. I was just about to instruct Guest (March 30, 2008 post)on where to go to get DVD seasons of our favorite show, because I am in fact Alvin Pfeiffer, the second most knowledgeable Wonder Years expert on site. Luckily, I decided to check, and I have discovered that individual season box sets do not yet exist. (I bring all this up because while I was shopping for "24" seasons a while back, I saw what I believed to be a box set of "The Wonder Years". I now suspect that this was probably a "Best of" set). So I did some further investigating, and I found that one of the factors holding up our season sets is the licensing of all the great 60's and 70's music that this wonderful show featured. (This also contributed to the long wait for WKRP). Hopefully, this issue will be addressed soon, and we can all get our Kevin and Winnie "fix" in the near future.

Pretty much all of the episodes have been uploaded at YouTube!!! Yeah!!!
But guess what: They have been removed!!!! Crap!!!!!! Once again YouTube has to take off episodes of good TV shows! And the people who submited them have closed their accounts!!!
Could it get any worse than that?!
That is the third time in the past year that I have seen WY episodes taken off of YouTube!!! You can't see WY on TV, DVD or on YouTube!!! That's just perfect isn't it?!
