Day one jump! Martha Stewart did not have the personality to carry this off. She probably is a lot tougher in the real world, and this persona she portrayed on Apprentice-Martha Stewart was not realistic or what I expected.
Day one, of course. The original Donald Trump version JTS around the fourth season when one simply stopped caring about the bland contestants and their petty brand-name-heavy travails, but at least for a while it had the saving grace of Trump's Darth Vader-like 'villain' at the helm. His evil henchmen George and Carolyn also entertainingly chopped their own slices of hapless fire-ee. With the Martha Stewart incarnation, you had none of that. The contestents were uniformly whitebread (DNA notwitstanding), the challenges lamely unadventurous, and to top it off, we have as our overlord an eerily 'nice' middle-aged lady who apologises and writes 'thank you' notes in dismissing hopeful losers. Now, one can pretty much believe that brusque, surly Trump has sod-all time to muck about with neither niceties nor idiots, and thus we slightly dread his potential boardroom ire. By design, no such tension existed in TA:MS, which blunted the original show's conceptual edge to low-cal, de-caffed 'Apprentice lite'. In short, one stopped caring about this entire show from the moment it began.
It never jumped! However, Charles should have lost that cigar. Who does he think he is?--Hugh Hefner? This is MSLO--NOT the playboy mansion. Incidentally, I would have taken that cigar and thrown it into the trash where it belongs. It was classless, tasteless and inappropriate--hey, maybe that was Hugh Hefner, after all?! Furthermore, Martha should have turned to Charles and said, "Charles, you know we don't smoke here at Living. Now, put that cigar out and do it NOW, or you'll learn the meaning of the words, "You just don't fit in." In addition, Martha should have cut that phrase. "You just don't fit in," doesn't work as well as "Thank you very much for your time, but you're no longer needed, good-bye." Finally, wouldn't it have been funny if Jim would have said to Martha, "Later baby!" And then, Martha wink and say, "NEVER, LOSER!" Oh, wasn't it funny too when Martha said, "Jim, you've played the game your way, now, I'm going to play it MY way." That was classic! All I can say is, "You go Martha!"
The show's rewards for the winning teams could be considered really lame compared to The Donald's. I really gave this show a chance and even got to like Jim, but when Martha announced in a very Seductive tone that the winners of one of the later challenges would get to go horseback riding and enjoy A Nice Game of Scrabble... she forced to to roll my eyes. Yep! I said it! I rolled 'em! Realistically, alone time with a potential employer is Great for so many reasons. But on TV, it seems a little laughable. And also... that cigar...
This show is basically awful. Martha is the same as Donald, even to the point that she can't make a decision and must fire multiple people instead of one. She isn't "tough" enough to choose one or the other. As for Jim, I thought he was a jerk, but must admit he said the truth saying "it is a game" much to the disagreement of Martha. Hey, Martha! It is a GAME, not a job interview as you claim. Jim also had the courage to challenge Martha that it is a GAME. Thus, I gained much respect for the guy although anyone who misses the birth of his first child to play a game has very odd life priorities.
The moment that it began. Trump's show was bad enough after the first season, but I know for a fact that it did NOT need a spin off by that horrid poncho wearing cheat with really bad hair. Don't you agree?
Just because the show says Apprentice doesn’t mean it’s gonna work. Proof? You put it up against a white-hot show before it has a chance to firmly establish itself — in the fall! (The original Survivor aired during the summer, in a sea of repeats, and found an audience immediately.) And now, with Lost tanning its tail from here to hell and back, the producers try to save face by claiming this will be the ONLY Martha Stewart Apprentice EVER. Yeah, right. Who in their right mind really believes these nimrods weren’t planning countless sequels long before the start?
I’m also really surprised that I actually like this show. That said however, why are those other two “executives” on the show? The totally useless and boring Alexis and the ultimate “yes” man Charles Koppelman. I’m still trying to figure out their jobs. Jim of course is the mandatory scum bag and is totally needed to give the show conflict and to provide the persona everyone can hate. The others still haven’t really developed any definite character although they are slowly. I guess when the others actually become interesting then it’ll be time for Jim to be given the bullet. I like this show and I really loved the expressions when those two witches got canned.
I really enjoy this show. However, I think Jim is too much. I feel kinda sorry for the guy since he says he's doing this for his family. But the way he behaves is terrible. But the show is great.
Show actually a bit better than I expected. I have disliked Martha since I first caught wind of her in the 80's. Uptight controlling bitch (I actually knew some people who worked for her, who more than confirmed this notion, and as if we all do not know this). On this show she's actually a bit nicer than I expected, but hard to know what's real and what's been carefully crafted to restore her image. I do not really care about her criminal conviction, but care more after hearing stories such as she threw out at least 100 baby chicks in the trash after one of her Easter shows. Heartless. Daughter Alex could be replaced by a log. Martha herself jumped the shark at birth, but for me oddly enough the show is not bad. I'll bet control fiend Martha will actually read this.
The show jumped when Jim was not eliminated in the first episode. I was a big fan of Beauty and the Geek a show that came on this past summer. I watched each week because of Richard who I thought added a lot to the show. When I saw the first episode of Martha's Apprentice, I thought I saw a slight similarity between Jim and Richard in that Jim was only there to help keep up the ratings with people either hoping he'd stay for some demented reason, or wishing he's get the boot that he deserves. I knew that Richard on Beauty and the Geek kept viewers coming back week after week, and I think Jim is on Martha for the same reason. I said I saw a slight resemblance between the two, with one major exception, Jim's maniacal antics make Richard look like Elmo.
