Day one. The writers seemed to cut-and-paste everything from the "Batman" movies and 70s "Detective Comics", but totally ignore anything from the actual comic this show was supposed to be based on. Still, there could've been a really good "Dark Knight" show in there somewhere, if they didn't have the declining movie series to worry about.
Alright, let's start by saying this show is finally coming to DVD this summer!!
Look, this was an adaptation of the comic series and meant to tie into the Batman movie franchise however tenous.
Even my wife, who hasnever read the comics liked this show. It was something a bit different for it's time.
I was sorry to see it cancelled but am thrilled that it is coming out on DVD.

The writing on this show was a joke! Mia Sara's character was so awefully written. Then of course we had to listen to Ashley Scott whine every week over the whole "whoa is me the meta-human".
I thought Ashley Scott did a great job in this show. I liked the fact she had an attitude and didn't always want to do the right thing all the time as the super hero code says. Mia Sarah however was a horrible actress. She should have played the role more as a dark and ruthless criminal mastermind rather than trying to act like a female joker. BOP was never given a fair chance. I believe this show would be able to make it if it had Smallville as a lead in. The show had major potential.
It never jumped those asses at theWB didn't leave it on long enought to jump.
I've missed this show since they pulled it.The WB didn't know a good thing when they had it.

Jumped the Shark on day one! This was a horribly thought out show that alienated a Batman fan base it needed to succeed. As proven by WB’s Smallville, rewriting a classic mythos can be great if done tactfully and respectfully. However, this show ignored the mythos completely and that’s why it faild. A show based on comic book is obviously intended to build its fan base around those comic book fans. However with the destruction of the mythos most comic fans were so greatly turned off by the show that the only possible fans left were those that were not comic readers and people who don’t read comics aren’t going to want to watch a comic book television show. comments: The moral of the story is “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”. A show based on a comic book is aimed at comic book fans. Changing the stories a little so it stays fresh is a necessity. But, NEVER change the mythos to the point you alienate those fan whom you depend on to make a successful comic book show.
As a long-time fan of Batman and the BOP comics, I really liked this show. Even so, the goofy slapped-together ending they did once they knew they were cancelled was pretty awful. Too bad really, as I thought the series was fun and had promise up to then.
BOP jumped the shark the moment they made an icon like Bruce/Batman into nothing more than a deadbeat dad. For that alone, BOP deserved to be yanked from life-support. Barbara Gordon was the only bright spark in this "Smallville"-ized schlock.
By blatantly ignoring almost every fact and history of the comics that it is supposed to be based on. And planting a kiddy club in show that should have been cast with woman not girls. Making their problems (school) so *interesting*. It was more a mixture between Charmed and Dark Angel than a real film to the comics.
If they had switched the roles of Helena and Dinah that would have been a good start. Than Dinah could have been the overconfident heroine, like she is in the comics, and Helena could have been the up and coming heroine, which would have played more into the relationship of her and Barbara. The way it was done though, it seemed like the series started 2 years after it should have. Everything has to be explained with voiceovers and flashbacks. A better supporting cast for the Gotham PD would also have helped. And Nightwing would have been a great idea, especially oif he was trying to fill the cowl of Batman. By the way, for everyone who says the Batman would never leave Gotham, re-read No Man's Land. He did leave for awhile, but came back. It's what caused a big rift with his relationship with Commissioner Gordon.
Day one. The plot was weak. The acting was the worst i have ever seen. even my wife (apparently the shows biggest fan ..she lasted a full 4 shows) acknowledges that they were horrible. and could the push the whole black cop white actress thing anymore. that's so not "cutting edge" anymore. see "save the last dance" the movie. but worse than the lame plots was just the complete lack of a storyline that was played by bad actors. it is almost campy it is so bad but the actors are too earnest to watch it for pure farcial value.
The episode with the water villain revealed the serious inconsistencies in how these writers were approaching this show. It had SO much potential!
Birds of Prey seemed a little like "Dawson's cave" at the beginning, but after Episode two it found its feet and started to groove. The show was not so much about kicking villians asses but women and women's relationships, hence Dinah at 16 instead of as a grown up Canary. I can't understand why this upset DC fans, as DC has shown Black Canary and Black Canary II, her daughter, ever since the Crisis. Huntress was always a cool character and it was great to see her rise from the ashes of the Earth 2 cast of characters. The writing was fantastic: I soon warmed to Helena Kyle and Barbara wasn't the techowimp she sometimes appears to be in the comics. She was never shown feeling sorry for herself because she was in a wheelchair, and that rocked. It isn't fair as the writing was much better than the writing in the first season of Smallville, the "look what Kryptonite has done to another student of Smallville high this week" season. Helena's relationship with Reese was well handled: it was a real shock seeing the first episode again and seeing them meet as strangers. Best of all was Harley who was allowed to tease every week until the payoff in the 13th (and last, sob sob) episode. Her acting in that episode is dynamite: check out her licking Huntress' face while she questions her! The metahuman premise was crafted well too: again, it didn't turn into Freak of the Week. Why did the network cancel this show after only 13 episodes? It could have been so great with more appearances from Batman villains, characters in the DC universe.... Nightwing would have awesome!
