I loved this show. I was eight when it aired and 9 when it went off the air. I remember that only the kids saw Random do his majic. Wow, I didn't relieze Dixie Carter was the Aunt. And I don't think I realized that Random's character was the same character in "Chachi sells his soul to the devil" episode. The episode entitled "Runaway" is the one I remember the most especially the scene in the truck stop where Random in order to remove these truck drivers uses his majic to convince them their truck is being stolen by turning the headlights on so the guys would leave. Only for them to return a few minutes later. It's funny what you remember.
Just because the appearance on Happy Days happened a week after OOTB's premiere doesn't mean it wasn't a spin-off. One of the shows could have been a week behinfd in airing or any other factor
Just a correction to the earlier comments: "Out of the Blue" was NOT a spinoff of "Happy Days", nor of "Mork and Mindy." Mork -did- appear in the premiere episode, but the characters and premise of "Out of the Blue" had never been seen prior to "Blue"'s debut. The guest appearance by Random the angel on a dream episode of "Happy Days" (involving a struggle between the angel and the devil) occurred a little more than a week AFTER "Blue" premiered. (So, "Out of Blue" is from the same TV "universe", but definitely was NOT a spinoff of either those more successful Garry Marshall series.)
Only problem: not enough episodes. I was entering puberty and I was absolutely smitten by the lovely Tammy Lauren! I would like to see her appear regularly in a show that actually lasts for an entire season!
Would you, as parents, be the least concerned with your kids spending hours at a time in some colored-box funhouse with a couple of creepy Asian adults in their backyard? I sure as hell would! WTF is that all about!? And the kids are borderline saccharine, not quite as bad as Barney...yet.
He was an angel. His name was Random. It was, like Mork & Mindy, a spinoff of "Happy Days." Random's introduction was actually during an episode of "Happy Days" when he had to defeat the devil to win back Fonzie's soul. The show really wasn't half bad when I was in 5th grade. The kids knew he was an angel, but the mom didn't. I guess she didn't need that kind of assurance to let a stranger wander into their lives and live in their house.
This was a forgettable spinoff of Mork & Mindy circa '79. The main character had magical powers, and lived with a large family. He was a kind of moral policeman/big brother/voice of reason for the family. I think he - like Mork - was an extraterrestrial. Robin Williams appeared in almost every episode I saw (which wasn't too many!). When you have to rely on him that much, then it's safe to say that the show was weak on its own. I know it's common to have character crossovers to get the show rolling - but when does one say "stop"?
