The Burning Zone jumped in episode 12 when they got rid of Drs Marcase & Shiroma & replaced them with Taft. Marcase & Shiroma were played by excellent actors & the characters were good 3-dimensional & complex. Taft was a good looking know-it-all. Also, they never resolved to the death-to-all-people thread.
When they let Tamlyn Tomita go. The dialog was horrible, but the special effects were fun and Tomita was a total babe. So I'd watch the show with the sound off and the stereo on
This show jumped in the opening shot of the opening episode. Seriously: the very first thing we see is a close-up of the hero's car radio. He switches it on. It's already set to a rock music station, and IMMEDIATELY (without even waiting to find out what song is playing) he cranks the volume all the way up. This is the scriptwriter's shorthand for telling us that the hero is a happenin' dude, totally hip. Then the hero (who's too cool to wear a seatbelt, of course) starts driving his car at top speed, well over the speed limit. (Further proof that we're supposed to consider him a real happenin' dude.) Naturally, a highway cop starts tailing him. The hero comments out loud: 'I don't need this.' Yes, you DO need this, you bastard: you broke the law and endangered human lives. The scumbag floors the gas pedal, and he races the cop all the way to the top-secret compound where he works. Naturally, the cop doesn't have clearance to follow him inside ... so the guard at the gate jumps out and points a gun at the police officer (who is DOING HIS JOB). When the guard threatens to shoot the cop if he doesn't turn round and leave, we see a big close-up of the hero smirking in self-satisfied glee at having beaten a speeding ticket. Yes, this guy's a real happenin' dude, all right. Real hip. Real cool. This series was morally irresponsible, and I wish I could say that this opening scene wasn't typical of the entire series. Alas, it was all downhill from here.
This show jumped early. It was when all of a sudden there were new characters replacing the two main leads, thus different actors, and a new premise - less about exotic diseases (your 'Outbreak' scenario) and more about government coverup (that sounds familiar...). It was hard with the way things are screened in Australia to see if this was at the beginning of Season 2, or half way through the first season! Either way, it wrecked the whole show. Bad career move.
