Do yourselves a "favor" and check out the Goldie Hawn interview on YouTube. There are hardly words to describe the lameness and excruciatingly awkward conversation Chevy is trying to have with his guest.
The absolute nadir of the clip is the oft mentioned clip is the infamous birthday cake gag with Goldie's extremely embarrased son. As he's sitting in the audience wih his equally embarrased girlfriend, Chevy has a HUGE cake brought out and starts singing Happy Birthday to this poor kid. As Chevy is walking the cake over to the kid, he pulls one of the lamest gags I've ever seen, he let's the cake fall out of his hands onto the floor right i front of the kid. It MAY have been funny if he had stumbled Gerald Ford style over the steps and the cake "accidentally" dropped, but Chevy literally just throws the cake down and runs back to the stage to get another cake already prepared. AWFUL.
It's gets better. After the cake incident, Chevy and Goldie start doing some weird dance all the while exhorting the audience to dance. Poor Goldie's kid is just sitting there with a giant cake on his lap. He was the lucky one!
Chevy is a snob racist left wing pos without an ounce of humor in his body. Cant you tell that he basically hates the world. How can somebody like that be funny? Even in Caddyshack when that chick did everything but rape him he acted like a total dumbass and it wasnt funny.
The funny movies he was in would have been funny if a dead person played the parts NOT because of no talent Chevy. Oh well he can enjoy MCing jazz festivals for the rest of his miserable life. LOL.
Chevy Chase was never as funny as he was made out to be. I liked him in Vacation but I think he got into drugs, painkillers etc. I could tell from his dull stare that he had lost a few brain cells. He was paranoid and scared. All his guest said he acted super nervous, so much that he could not think straight. It was like watching a train wreck.
Drugs took out the comic timing he once had. He admitted he was on medications during that show and they were the wrong ones. His senses were dulled and still are to this day.
Hey, Chevy, where did you get the idea to name yourself after a car company, a Mexican restaurant chain and a suburb of Washington, DC?

COMING UP AT 10 ON FOX: The Best of The Chevy Chase Show...followed at 10:05 by the local news...
I remember this show....OUCH!!!
I respect most of his work and have gotten alot of great laughs from him and his movies over the years, but I can remember watching this show and being totally mortified, it was painful to watch and I just remember being really embarrassed for him. It was uncomfortable to watch, but I had to keep seeing more. I mean each episode just got worse and worse...wow
Chevy should be the one to continue the Fletch franchise. He has been quoted as saying this character was a natural extension of his own persona, and aslo his favorite film project. I think he's been making some interesting choices of late, since coming out of semi-retirement. He shows some real potential to have a late career revival if he continues to choose the right projects. He and Goldie should do something together again!
Haven't seen anybody mention the Garrett Morris interview, during which the stage lights and sound completely went out and STAYED out for about 30 seconds. I remember thinking at the time, why didn't they retape the segment, or at least splice it? I guess by that point they had totally given up...
I liked the National Lampoon's movies, but other than that, have never been impressed by Chevy Chase. I guess Johnny Carson was right when he said Chase couldn't ad-lib a fart, and this show was proof.

I wouldn't say this show was as surreal as Magic Johnson's, but it was pretty darn close.
This jumped day one. He just never looked comfortable in this talk show. If the Host doesn't seem comfortable then you know that the show isn't going to last. Aa a guest he is fine, but as a host, not good at all.
In the premiere episode, there was a basketball goal at one end of the stage. Chevy came on dribbling a basketball and proceeded to attempt to sink it...again and again and AGAIN. Finally, they awkwardly inserted a close-up of one of the basketballs finally going through the net. Then they cut to Chevy dribbling the basketball, like we at home were supposed to believe he'd actually made the lay-up.

Shark...JUMPED.
Watched the first episode of this abomination with my handy cringe-o-meter by my side...BURIED THE NEEDLE. When Chevy dumped Oliver Hudson's birthday cake on the floor then exhorted the studio audience to "shake it" to the lame studio band as he and Goldie Hawn gyrated and made goofy faces FOR A FULL MINUTE before mercifully going to commercial, a television legend was born.
actually I thought chevy chase was great. Christmas vacation defined an era
won't it be great when he's old & close to death & has to think each day what a forgotten nothing footnote to SNL he will be for the last two seconds of a dry news day when he kicks the bucket?
From Guest: Ha ha ha ha ha!! Worst show ever!! Chevy didn't even know what to do with his hands let alone the guests. Bwaahahahahahahaaa!!!!!!!!
Chevy Chase is talentless. It's amazing he's had a career in this business.
