I can't believe you guys! It's like you are reviewing Skakespeare or Oscar Wilde. It's a show for teens for Saturday morning crowd. That's it! This was my show, along with Saved by the Bell, California Dreams, etc. My episode was the Thanksgiving one when they realized their friend was poor. I thought that kid was asian, so I was surprised when his family was Mexican. Anyway, chillax people, you're putting too much thought into these shows!
Growing up in the midwest, I am glad I had the common sense to know that probably what they depicted at a NYC inner city high school wasn't at all that closely accurate.

I did happen to like L-Train though, he was funny. But that snotty little Asian guy just rubbed me the wrong way-and I am not being racist here folks-he just struck me as the kind of kid that I would have hated being in my class. Freaking prick.

Them rapping everything was lame, and they should have gone the Daria way and put the goths in a positive light. I hung out with some girls that were goth and they are okay.

As a teenager it turned me off to this show and back to Saturday Morning Cartoons again.
You are wrong Phil the show sucks Jumped day one
This show is still entertaining in its own way. I love the episode where they think miss noble is buying pot.
Jumped day one
loved it, had something to look for on saturday mornings

The show made me laugh. That is all I ask a comedy show to do. When are all shows supposed to be "real".
Unrealistic and lame from the start! The kids were way too clean-cut and had California accents, except for the rapping African-American caricature-character(who just sounded like a long-running bad joke.)And a New York City public high school with no graffiti,no need of building repairs, and a ROOF GARDEN?!?! I am a third-generation NYC school system graduate and there are NO public high schools in NYC that are anything like this series depicts-it is clear that the writers and producers never spent a day in NYC!!!
Jumped from the opening credits of day one. The lamest rap theme song I'd ever heard. Typical teen formula garbage. Unrealistic characters, boneheaded story lines and horrible sets. Even the graffiti on the walls looked canned. However, damn if that blonde wasn't the hottest thing I'd ever seen. Who'd believe none of those chumps would have tried to hit that?
There is only one damn classroom in the whole school! not to mention there is about 15 pupils who "hang" on the roof all day. there is a few lockers, where the "gang" assemble to discuss how "Al" is going to be the new director of a hollywood film (AS IF). but the lamest part of the show was when they moved to a real world style (MTV's lawyers should be alerted to this) i mean what the hell was that about? then occasionally one of them gets hooked on drugs (possible the only realistic element of a child in a NY high school), so poorly acted, so poorly written. why is there only one teacher? who is the principal! doesnt she have any work to do. an awful, awful show
Alright...I think most people are in accord that this show is a utter pile of horseshit, but I find it amazing how many incredible opportunities these "high school" knuckleheads are presented with every week. Here's the short list: art director for an advertising agency, back-up dancer on a major recording artists' tour, commercial radio dee-jay...the friggin list goes on and on. Who's hiring these annoying pricks and furthermore, who the hell is their guidance counciler. They need a serious raise! I'm gonna have to assume it's Miss Noble...THE ONLY F**KING ADULT IN THE WHOLE SCHOOL. (aka Donovan McNabb's mom in that equally awful Chunky Soup ad with the "Italian" director). I mean what the hell...it's in New York City, not on the prairie somewhere in a one room school house.
Dawn is the worst ever character I have seen on TV, she is such a snobby little egotist who always wants the limelight and is really not all that. She's such a preachy little goody-goody and she really makes my skin crawl. So the show jumped when they let her in it. Cassidy also cannot act very well, shes sort of melodramatic and overly flirty and probably only got the part because of her looks. But in response to the above posts - L-Train is supposed to be really old! Have you never heard him comment about how many times he's had to repeat certain grades cuz he keeps flunking? But one thing I did notice is that Ive never seen Ms Noble's husband since she married him. Oh and the little guy's ego is thru the roof, someone should really step on him.
The cast was a bunch of posers, but I still find myself singing: "C-I-T-Y, you can see why, these guys....." in the shower.
