Good show. Especially the first two seasons. JTS when in season four, Theo started to entertain thoughts of doing his mom, Claire. Theo trying to look down Claire's blouse wasn't in keeping with the idea of wholesome family entertainment.
Seasons 1 and 2 were the best. After Jay Sandrich's role diminished the shows started to decline. They also changed Cliff into a buffoon. The show went from being a great family sitcom with moral lessons to having corny musical skits, Muppets, and Cliff dreaming he gave birth to a hoagie. And then near the end it was all of these jazz musicians playing.
Lots of reasons why I think this show jumped the shark. The biggest reason I think...
" JUSTINE, JUSTINE, JUSTINE !!!! "
" JUSTINE, JUSTINE, JUSTINE !!!! "
Here's what made it jump:
1. Alvin and Sondra who have to be in the top 10 of the most nauseating tv couples ever.
2. Olivia, who was constantly shoved down everyone's throat. That kid could not hold a candle to Rudy in year 1 and 2.
3. Finally, Kenny. Kenny had to be the biggest loudmouth on this show. I would've thrown him out of the house after his first remark about women, what they should do, and how he bossed Rudy around was ridiculous. Then she changed from a cute kid to a lippy pre-teen. What was wrong with Peter? Why did they bring that rotten little twerp on this show-
That one post was right, years one and two were the best...

i personally don't feel the show jumped the shark. i just think that because the show ran into the early 90s and the kids were older, that back in the day feeling i guess you could say was gone. i didn't like when cousin Pam or when Olivia's characters were brought into the story. i just felt that they weren't needed. had the kids actually got in some serious real trouble, like sex, drinking, drugs then the show may have taken another turn, then it shows okay, the Huxtables do go through real life family issues. lets face it the Cosby show was the only show that featured a successful black man and black woman and kids who did minor things to get in trouble like wearing lipstick at 15 in one episode.
They all were so self absorbed and boring and the show just was not funny. I didn't notice any warmth or love - just a lot of toughlove preachiness. It was all about getting ahead and being "successful".
Maybe the problem is that I expected it to be easy and learned too late that is extremely challenging. The difficulty of life combined with the disapointment brought by major experience (love, work, friendship) keeps me up or makes me bury my head under the pillow.
Jumped the day Cosby's jello commercial hit the airwaves. That childlike cartoonish voice makes me cringe. It's like fingernails on a chalkboard.
i dont think it jumped the shark, but i did see them trying to repeat some of the things they did with rudy with olivia. i dont think they needed olivia. i liked how the children were growing up because with growing up comes new problems and challenges in life. i loved how we saw these kids grow up in front of our eyes with their problems from wanting to wear makeup too early (vanessa and rudy), to dating problems, to homework issues in high school and college, marriage issues, having children...i loved how we got to see the kids through all walks of life. still one AMAZING show.
Heh. Nice. Are you tuned in to my high display A joke for you! Why wouldn't the dishwasher's gloves fit? Because he had <quote>Dishpan<quote> Hands!
I always enjoyed this show in the very beginning.
I thought that Vanessa and Rudy especially were cute as kids. then all the kids grew up, and they had to keep bringing in more little kids to replace the others. I did go ahead and watch it until the end, but I didn't like it too much anymore. it seems like it JTS when they kept it on too long.
