This show is now & will always be the awesomeness.
AAHHH...ITS OVER!!! I knew it was too good to last. Season 6 was such a disappointment, Larry went from being hilariously neurotic and awkward to just plain annoying and tiresome. the Blacks were a pathetic attempt to add a few new characters into the series and every scene with them was probably the worst from the whole show. there were still some great scenes during the season, I loved the last episode but nothing compares to first 3 seasons from the show
Day one. The reason: it should be called "Curb Your Hysteria," since the show tries to play on "realism," but every episode involves everyone screaming and getting hysterical over nothing.
I watched the entire series in a few days, and the formula was ALWAYS the same: Larry would do something fairly innocent, and someone would and go off on him for no reason, screaming and getting completely hysterical, or otherwise being a total dick-wad right out of the blue; and instead of simply leaving or calling the cops etc, Larry and everyone else always just starts screaming back, and it turns into a huge screaming-match-- and THAT'S supposedly "funny." Or Larry would try to explain things and apologize, and somehow it's "funny" that the person only starts screaming MORE.

This show ALSO JTS from all the "Special Guest Stars-- IN EVERY EPISODE; you could never tell if they were being complete a-holes in self-deprecation, or if the celebrity was just being their egotistical selves and acting arrogant (ala David Schwimmer, the #1 a-hole of the series).
Then we get the typical "Skinny guy-fat guy" due with Larry and Jeff, which has only been ripped off since Laurel & Hardy.
Finally, his "wife" is a complete bitch, and that's suppoosed to be "funny" as well.
If you rarely watch the show, it's funny-- like a clock is right twice a day. But if you watch all of the episodes back-to-back, you can see that they're pretty much all the same-- and all equally lame.
SOME were funny, showing Larry's pettiness; however when EVERY EPISODE involved people getting unrealistically hysterical and screaming over the slightest issue, you wonder if everyone was a drunk insomniac wired up on espresso.
Jump the Shark??? That's just plain crazy talk. This isn't just the funniest show on TV -- by far. It's one of the funniest shows ever made. Just brilliant.
Cheryl is the worst. When Larry dies all she cares about is the cash. In fact she herself is the only person she has ever cared about the entire series. She is just a crappy actress.
The show jumped with the season five finale. The reaction of the other character's to Larry's supposed death was horrible: Chery, Jeff and Suzie care more about who gets his money and Lewis - who has just received his kidney - goes on holiday! Awful, out of character episode! With season six, however, the show definitely jumped back. The Blacks - especially Leon - were a great addition to the regular cast, and there was less of whiney Cheryl as the season progressed. So how about a Seinfeld reunion plot for season 7?
Every time Larry is out somewhere; somebody tells him to leave. What's so funny about that?
I loved the "Producers" finale. I also liked the death/Heaven storyline more than I thought I would. I personally don't think the show has jumped or ever will but I have to say, I cannot stand this whole "pretty, pretty, pretty good" nonsense. Larry David always seemed way to cool to resort to cheap catchphrase comedy. I always thought he was against all that. Sure, "No soup for you", "GORE-TEX!!!" and "You made out during Schindler's List?" are catch-phrases now, but they were only said once. Actually, come to think of it, I guess "Giddy UP!", "Get OUT" and "Hello Newman" were oft-repeated, but to be honest, I expect that from Seinfeld, just not from Curb, that's all.
Seasons one through three are probably the best of CYI. Season four and five were generally the worst in my opinion. Season six was better than four and five, but worst than the first three seasons. I loved the edition of Leon (I don't know the actor/comedian's name). All seasons however have their funny moments, so I can't say the show ever jumped the shark.
I wish HBO would play some re-runs of the first 2 or 3 seasons. It is some of the funniest stuff on television in the last 10 years. I still get nostalgic for it. But this show went downhill after that. The characters became cliches. On Seinfeld, George and Kramer stopped being funny in the last seasons, because their characters were so over the top. Same here, Jeff's wife was hillarious in the beginning but not the end. Still, great show that deserves to be remembered.
CYE is pretty, pretty good! My favorite episode is when Richard Lewis' nurse says that Jeff is small down below and Jeff says that it isn't true b/c she has a big V "huge".
when cheryl and larry got divorced that was it for me. at first i struggled to understand how they possibly got together, but i eventually grew to love them as a couple. the whole plane-crash-tivo-man thing was just upsetting. I found it almost too cruel to be funny
This is the type of the show which I don't think can ever really jump the shark, it's just so naturally funny.

However, it's impossible to top the fantastic episodes the 3rd season had, like the one with Krazee-Eyez Killa and the one with the terrorist attack (that didn't happen). I don't think the show will ever be as funny in its later years as it was in its first few years. But then again, that's to be expected with many shows.
Everyone on that show makes me laugh, from Cha Cha to Oscar the dog. It's a bit of sunshine in my mundane life.
contrary to what a lot of these posts read, the lack of major characters (especially richard lewis) in the sixth season didnt really affect me all that much. lest we have forgotten, the majority of the fifth season revolved around richard lewis, so his lack of participation in the sixth season cant be shunned upon just because larry introduced some new characters into the show. the blacks were hilarious, all of them. especially leon. some of the things he said throughout his tenure in the show were just spot on and i couldnt have asked for a funnier new character, imo.

i agree with cheryl being a bit lackluster though. she provides a good compliment role to larry but she isn't really that funny. she plays a better victim of larry's inadequacies than an actual comedic actor. i guess thats what made her appealing to me. the fact that they were having problems and larry eventually ended up hooking up with the black lady (her name is escaping me), i mean, that was a great ending to the whole thing. especially when larry was on the mic a scene or two prior to that one.

its just a hilarious show and larry david is a downright genius. how can anyone argue that?
