Never Jumped... Probably the coolest theme song of the 80's... too bad of the leftwing environmentalist B.S. you have to sit through in some episodes. Typical of the CBC
What about the episode with the Czech kids who want to defect? A little bit of mid 1980s Cold War moralizing. But Dr. Roberts saves the day as always, and the kids all return to life behind the Iron Curtain. At least for a few more years. New Regime my foot!
This show was always on the verge of jumping...I think it happened for me with the tennis episode when Jonah is playing the heart-throb. Notice how the court announcer is George Dunbar's voice--and he's in the stands at the same time watching the match!! Did the show run out of money? Here's another thing: How does a guy on a marine biologists salary (employed at an aquarium where his boss is always cheaping him out) afford that piece of oceanfront property with a custom swimming pool?
I love this show!!! Please release it on DVD. The series was amazing and the scenery of Vancouver is spectacular.
Dr. George Dunbar was the best! "I've caused a lot of sleepless nights in North America because of you, Grant." (From the episode where that one kid gets rabies or something.) Classic!
The best episode was the one where Dr. Grant What's-his-face has to take care of a pig at his house for the weekend. He asks Dr. George Dunbar to take the pig, but ol' George is worried by the thought of a pig in his house with his collection of antiques. Heh heh. Although, on second thought, that other episode where some random wealthy yet surprisingly naive guy is tricked into buying some fake koi fish (given phony markings using toxic paint, no less!) and Grant helps him track down the diabolical genius behind the scam was pretty good, too. Not enough George Dunbar, though.

Great show, down to earth, with one exception. While he may be handsome, Christopher Crabb (Jonah) is a stiff as an actor. The show was a wonderful getaway from those American productions of over-sensationalized police and crime dramas.
Danger Bay was a suspenseful but heart-warming Canadian drama. I loved the Vancouver-area scenery and the shots of the island in particular, and I grew to enjoy the goings-on of the family. It was a good family show. I like the opportunity to experience TV shows from across the border, too.
The same title of this show is a complete joke! I had the "pleasure" of watching two episodes from this "exciting" sitcom, and the bad acting and the formulaic lame plots were noticeable. What else do you need for a show to jump the shark when you consider that a single mature biologist father and his daughter fight random ecological disasters is exciting? This might have worked in the political correctness of the 80s, but not now.
This show jumped the shark from the get go. It contained so much sappy sentimentalism, tear jerky hugs and kisses between dad and kids, and family values lessons learned that it would have caused even the Tooth Fairy to woof her cookies. The only redeeming feature to the whole show was the hot-looking blonde who played the dual role of helicopter pilot and Dr. Grant's new girlfriend. Man, did she look good in tight jeans! However, the show ruined her appeal when she was cast as a straight-laced do gooder who never once revealed her ****, rather than a vengeful, slutty whore (which would have given the show some real fireworks). This show gave Canadian TV a real bad rep! Astonishing it lasted as long as it did. Goes to show that public broadcasters in Canada can rarely create anything worthwhile (Degrassi and Hockey Night in Canada are the worthwhile exceptions), hence this show lasted more than one season. I rarely watched it because it was so bad, but I do remember that the single dad/vet and his two kids lived on an island. I kept wishing a tsunami would wash them all away.
Jumped with the addition of "New Kid" Jess (Sarah Sawatsky) in season 6 (1989)..I guess she was added to compensate for the aging original "kids" Nicole and Noah Roberts (Ocean Hellman and Christopher Crabb) ,who basically became little more than straight men for Sawatsky in the show's final season... Was a great show until then. The storylines became way too simplified and "cutesy" and everything centered around the new kid from that point on... The show should have ended after season 5. Was on its way to jumping in season 5 with the hilarious concept of Crabb as a "heart throb"... By the end of it's run the show was a pale imitation of it's first three seasons.
Jonah's voice broke. Then Jonah went from kid to heart-throb with the tennis episode. Jonah temporarily becomes a tennis bum.
Loved this show. Liked the stories, and loved the scenery. I moved from the west coast of BC where it was filmed and moved to the prairie wastelands of central Canada (Alberta, eh).. it was a great way to remind me of home. Besides, I had a mild crush on the teenage daughter on the show (Nicole) haha..
Danger Bay jumped the shark with one of its first episode, The Only One. The wait for the birth of a little whale, its birth and its death a few weeks later, that was very interesting! A lot of emotion and an award for this specific episode. Danger Bay is a wonderful show, more specifically dedicated to children and teenagers. It's intelligent and beautiful (landscapes). One of my favorite shows. Wonderful actors too!
I agree with the first comment that this was a bad show - but I take exception that it was on TV in Canada whereas an American bad show wouldn't have made it to the screen!! GOOD GRIEF - the number of garbage shows on American TV is countless and endless. I only need to start with something like Men Behaving Badly and move right on to The View to name shows that are really BAD.
