This show was almost Mod Squad like-Danny and 3 younger people keeping in touch with him via cell phones,the modern aspect of the show in 1997....The timeslot was the problem-CBS placed it on against NYPD Blue and then got the idea of moving it to Thursday against ER-it beat a rerun of ER,but the next week ER came back with 4 times the audience.....
Yo,
I like Danny Aiello.
He's a terrific actor and paisano.
And yo;
he wouldn't be the first testa del rubinetto to fall victim to bad artistic or business decisions.(And we're tawkin' real bad...capiche?)
Let's look at it for what it is;
This forgettable and formulaic piece of...programming was an unmitigated, unabashed excercise in self-idolatry.
That, in and of itself, is almost forgivable if it delivers the goods.
...This didn't quite cut the mustard.
Fuggeddabowdit.
I was really rootin' for my boy Danny , and wanted to see him do good. But yo;
this stank like month-old cannolis...

I remember in a press interview for this show, Aiello said he was going to get his "good friend Bobby DeNiro" to do a guest shot on Delleventura. To quote Wayne Campbell, "Ch'yeah, when monkeys fly out of my butt!" I was a temporary Market Research person for CBS when we tested this show and I had to sit through the pilot 12 times! Five years later, I still get nauseous.
Danny Aiello's character was insufferably self-righteous and seemingly all-knowing (meaning: hopelessly boring). I am betting D.A. had Total Creative Control, or at least had the director in his hip pocket. Stars should never "direct themselves," and for evidence, I give you: The Prince of Tides.
