I just caught the flick, "Hot Fuzz" which features Edward Woodward in a supporting role as a "Neighborhood Watch" commander in a small English village. He is hilarious in the part and I enjoyed seeing him still out there giving it his all. If you have a chance to see this on DVD, it's an odd little movie that is a bit of fun.

He remains one of my favorite Brit actors to date.
the best show of the 80s, end of.
Equalizer was one of the best shows of the eighties. Great acting, great scripts, great music...everything came together in the right way at the right time. Edward Woodward was magnificent, but then so was the entire cast. Never JtS, although the last season began to show signs of deterioration. Budget cuts? Weaker scripts? Loss of Stewart Copeland's music? The show was straining at that point.
Never jumped. The guy was too cool. Years later, I had to have a Jag. I now realize it may have been planted in my mind from watching this show. As a kid, the old guy was alright.
Agree with the comment about Timothy Dalton as McCall. A former British secret agent who can be cold-hearted and brutal (think Licence to Kill). Bring it on!!
Great news, kids!Season one of The Equalizer is coming out on DVD this month.Personally,I thought the show came close to jumping when he found out about his "love child"(Melissa Sue Anderson).I also liked Harley Gage and think that Richard Jordan got a bad rap.Having said that, they should have given more time to Mickey, who completely kicked ass.
The Equalizer never jumped, it was EPIC, kinda like a modern day post watershed Death Wish, Edward Woodwards acting was sincere, realistic and (for the most part) unapologetic, classic series, should be in the annals of "Best 80's Series ever" category :D
I hate to think that the show ever JTS, but the fourth season was almost like another series. It became the "Socialwork - a- lizer." I blame the new writers for the most part. They did not really get the show and the weak episodes are there to prove it. Also, you can tell the budget was lower on the series. More scenes in warehouses, etc. The new composer, CAMERON ALLAN, was not up to the task of following in STEWART COPELAND'S musical footsteps.
All of this said, I still watch the first three seasons on a regular basis. They are great little New York movies. Woodward was, and still is, one of my favorite actors. I'm sure that whoever plays "McCall" in the feature will not be anywhere nearly as perfect as EW.
"Jumped" in its 4th Season.Mid-way in the 3rd season Stewart Copeland stopped doing the music, but the episodes were still good. Sadly season 4, with out Copeland and weak episodes spelled the end. By the way if a movie is done it should have Tim Dalton in the lead.
This was a great series, which never jumped the shark. The episodes without Edward Woodward were missing much of the magic, but they were still worthwhile. Most of the writing and all of the acting was first-rate.
Why isn't this show out on DVD yet? I loved the show and Woodward's acting. The chemistry between him, Control (Robert Lansing), Jimmy (Mark Margolis) and Mickey (Keith Szarabajka) was terrific. (BTW, the producer and sometimes writer Michael Sloan also produced and wrote for Kung Fu" The Legend Continues, which featured Robert Lansing. There were hints throughout that he was playing the same character as Control). I have several of the episodes on ***** tape. The show is a classic that never jumped.
It jumped the shark when, in one episode, McCall advocated gun control, though he would have exempted himself.
...by far the most intellegently written, compelling & incredibly acted TV series ~ way ahead of it's time!! Edward Woodward, Richard Jordan, Robert Lansing, Keith Szarabajka, William Zabka, Steven Williams, William H. Macy to name a few of the magnificient acting talents. When is the DVD set coming out?!
Just saw an episode a few weeks ago. Great show.
McCall was someone you could look up to and come thru in the end. A lost hero who has been hard to replace. Can't wait for a DVD series to be released. CDB
