All I can say is that if you ever watch the movie 'Auto Focus' (the film about Bob Crane's seamy private life and eventual murder), you will never, ever be able to look at 'Hogan's Heroes' in quite the same way again...
I've watched every episode and I do not believe that there was ever an episode about the Holocaust, let alone soap from Jews and Poles. Most of the actors who played the Germans were actually Jewish, in fact the actor who Lebeau was a survivor of the Holocaust.
To answer your question about Kinchloe's disappearance, Ivan Dixon, the actor who portrayed him, was given a job as a director which required his departure from the series.
The episode where Schultz refused to believe death camps existed in his beloved Germany, but found out the truth when he bathed with a bar of soap made from boiled down jews and poles. Not funny at all. This is the episode where Hogan's Heroes jumped the shark.

It has always been one of my favorite programs. I watched it when it first aired and now have all of the DVDs. The things I like the most include Col. Klink's facial expressions and the "Mission Impossible" type plots. Hogan reminds me of Jim Phelps with his brilliant plots. {:-]
To: They Call Me Mr French:
To say you are overintellectualizing is like saying a Lamborgini is built too fast for every day driving.
You are preaching to the converted as far as nazi atrocities are concerned.
That doesn't change the fact that you are just whining for the sake of whining: A sure sign of one who fancies himself an intellectual. This criticism of course will fall on deaf ears. You see, obtuseness is its own defense against improvement.

"Hogan's Heroes" is one of my favorite television comedies that has been made.
It was/is smart/clever, spoofing, lambasting, and other qualities.
My main beef with it is the laughtrack was too obvious and loud. I did not want that.
"They call me MISTER French" is a troll and is to be eliminated through by a bowel movement.
One of the worst atrocities, besides the happenings in WWII, is what TV Guide did by putting this great (overall) series AT ALL in any worst of
televion show list.

This was one of the funnest (not funniest) shows when I was growing up. It was one of the few shows my parents watched with me and we could all laugh (though, at 7, I didn't get ALL the jokes). Now, I watch it with MY kids and we all laugh again. My teenager even got into reading about POW camps and the underground and escaped prisoners because of it.
So, I say...GOOD JOB GUYS to the creators, writers, actors, and staff! for making Hogan's Heroes. It has stayed the test of time and is still worth it.
It's on twice in the afternoon where I am. I loved it as a kid. We'd watch it while having dinner. Re-discovered it a year ago. Still makes me laugh. The last season though was pretty awful. I agree there. They showed the pilot yesterday. Carter was an escaping prisoner.

Satire....
use of wit to criticize behavior: the use of wit, especially irony, sarcasm, and ridicule, to criticize faults
funny show how else did it last as long as it did.....Somebody was watching it...

From what some people are writing, you would think the show wasn't a comedy. It wasn't meant to be serious. I can't believe there is such intense emotion from a program that showed the German's as buffoons.
I still think it is very funny. Lot's of wit. Schultz was the best.

Ok season 6 was not that great and show need a writers bible. In that one season the gang helps out with D Day and the next couple of shows were pre D Day. However, how can anyone show that gave us some good touch stones could be said to have jumped the shark.
I mean when Barry obama got up and said I know nothing about the Rev. Wright. All I could do was laugh and see him as Sgt. Shutze.

I think They call me MISTER French and people like him are dead wrong about their 'How dare you make a comedy about something that was so mean?' whining. Wheelz is correct when he says Hogan's Heroes is not about Nazis or concentration camps. It isn't. The Germans portrayed were not Nazis and the camp was a POW camp, NOT a concentration camp.
For They call me MISTER French to say: "HH was about WWII, which was all about the Nazis and death camps and the Holocaust" he is generalizing to a fault. He may as well be saying, "Happy Days was about the fifties, which was all about the Korean War, the Cold War, etc." No, WWII was not ALL about the Nazis and concentration camps! It was also about America, patriotism and beating back the axis of evil. Neither was HH about Nazis or death camps. If he wants to take a small aspect of the war (Hogan's Heroes) and arbitrarily decide to bring the entire war into it, then I'm sure he can't stand comedies about ANYTHING, because they are all a part of a bigger picture! He probably hates western comedies because they were set in the old west where there were slaughters (on BOTH sides, I might add) between cowboys and Indians during those times, so poking fun at the old west is right out. He also no doubt hates The Beverly Hillbillies because their was a lot of feuding and killing among the hillbillies. Can't have that? Why is that funny??
Leave It To Beaver? Forget about it! How can a show about two boys being brought up in a caring nuclear family be funny when so many kids grew up in broken homes or on the street? That's not funny!
Hogan's Heroes? How can that possibly be funny? It's about a POW camp being run by incompetent Germans, but hey... there WERE Nazis on the German side too, and they were real mean! And there were also concentration camps during that time! Just because HH is NOT about those things, it is guilty by association, so it CAN'T be funny.
Give me a break! I thought Hogan's Heroes was a great show. Maybe it's because I have a sense of humor.
Peace.
