"Honey West" was an excellent series, with sharp, funny dialogue and excellent guest stars, that should have gone to a second season. It was prevented from doing so because the ABC network purchased The Avengers and felt there wasn't room for two crime-fighting females. Too bad it wasn't picked up by another network. It would have been great as a color show. Another reason it only lasted one season was because it was on opposite Gomer Pyle, which had a established audience from The Andy Griffith Show, so the ratings weren't there. Regardless, 30 episodes were made and the upcoming DVD set will be a must-purchase. I have a few episodes now and they are imminently re-watchable.
I never missed HONEY WEST during its brief run on Friday nights on ABC. Anne Francis was hot and that mole by the side of her mouth drove me crazy. Honey was no Emma Peel, but she was fun to watch. John Ericson was no bag of bones as her partner, Sam Bolt. Great escapist fun that wasn't on the air long enough to jump the shark.
It didn't have a chance to as it was prematurely cancelled as soon as The Avengers was popular and able to be cheaply imported from England.
Never jumped. Anne Francis was the Farrah Fawcett of her time. Show was on ABC and never had a chance. Anne was the reason I loved Fridays.
This show didn't live long enough to jump. Honey was played by Anne Francis, a pretty famous movie actress who also did a lot of TV. She had one of those Marilyn Monroe moles. When she went into action on the show she wore one of those skin tight black suits. She would get knocked out a lot and my hormones would go crazy. Then she'd get rescued by her tough guy partner (or vice versa). Can catch this show occasionally on TV land channel.
Honey West was fun while it lasted(1965-66).A slick tough female detective wasn't really unique at the time,I believe The Avengers' Emma Peel was now seen on that show by that time. But giving a female the lead in such a show was.Anne Francis was pretty good as Honey, she was cute and sexy. The show's closing musical ending was a real good number,I love hearing it.Safe to say Honey West deserves props for perhaps starting the trend of girl power shows we know see on TV, that came after it.Shows from The Girl From U.N.C.L.E to Charlie's Angels to Dark Angel, owe plenty to Honey West.
I don't know if this show ever jumped or not. It was a private detective show with a twist. Honey was a rich beautiful woman with a pet ocelot and she inherited her husbands detective agency. It was on in the mid 60's and I was just a kid but I remember being captivated by her smoldering beauty. I forget the actresses name, but she was something else.
