Kimmel has the anus eyes. He is the most untalented interviewer I have ever seen. He sucks and his show is unwatchable. He smells like poo.
James, you didn't include Craig Ferguson in your very long post about Jimmy, which basically negates the entire post. Craig outshines Kimmel in all the dimensions you mentioned. Jimmy is an average guy doing an average talk show. That's the most he can over hope for.
Don't we all love Jimmy Kimmel Olympic Play of the Day? A direct copy of Letterman (insert event) Play of the Day.
As a qualifier to my general praise below (July 6, 1:24 AM) let me add that I have to agree with many of you that JK's skits centering on family and staff are the weakest part of the show. Uncle Frank: stupid and slow okay, let's see him once or twice a year maybe. Guillermo, Beatrice? Why Yimmy? Do you appeal to blacks and Latinos by displaying 1940's of them? So I'm not blind to the weaknesses of the show. And Dave likes to through stuff off the top of a building. Now that's hot stuff and really funnny huh? Or Conan's whackoff bear? They've all got blind spots. But I think those who say Kimmel's not funny are from the planet Leno or some other puppet galaxy.
Why are people listing Jon Stewart as a talk show host? The competition for Kimmel
are these
Jay Leno
David Letterman
Conan O'Brien
That's it. Even if these three are allbetter than him than he's hands down number four. But they are not better.
What most of you have missed is a.interviewing stars, and promoting their current projects is 90% of the show. and b.Jimmy is one of the best interviewers around. Maybe the best in the history of late night talk.
No? Who's a better interviewer, or was? Carson? Too nervous and hungup. Of the current big four: Jay, who's monologue "jokes" and intern segments (Why are they all gay?) are among the worst in TV history, is a good interiviewer, a host who listens and responds to what the guest is saying. But Kimmel is better, quicker in his connections, more attentive to nuances, and contrary to his frat boy image often subtle and understated in his humor. his ever jovial persnality which apparently grates some is what puts the guests at ease and makes them come alive, not feel attacked as is so often the case with Conan and Dave. Conan is a frantic interviewer, ever trying to top the guest and continually bringing the conversation back to "me". Drawing attention to himself at the expense of the guest, sometime taking up the majority of the guest spot talking about himself.
David letterman has to rank fourth, because he's just not there most of the time. It's as if he forgets where is, what he's doing. Yes he was funny in 1985. Maybe 1989. But after he got the prime slot and the two thousand dollar suits he lost a lot of his bite, doesn't take chances like he once did and has relied on the same tired routines just like Johnny did in his twilight years.
Verdict: Jimmy Kimmel is one of the best host/interviewers I've ever seen. His brief introductory segment displays his understated humor. I think more than a few of you are missing this because he doesn't do the Jeno Leno "raise" at the end of the joke to tell you when to laugh. He even skips the Jack Benny (stolen by Carson) slow take. He doesn't tip off a lot of his secondary (aside) jokes he just slip them in their without fanfare. It's a lost art I never thought I would see on late night television again.
His interaction with the band is also subtle. The bandleader interjects frequent "yeah" commentsto the short mono(these often seem ingenioiusly placed) or genuine responses that don't seemed forced as with Paul Schaffer and Leno's Kevin Eubanks.

Good show but I agree he needs to stop shoving guillermo, beatrice and uncle frank down our throats. They aren't funny and never will be funny. Stop trying to jam the square peg in the round hole. Other than that I like it.
Enough already! First it was Uncle Frank, then Guillermo, and now it's Beatrice! Please, someone tell Jimmie they are not funny! I used to watch religiously, and now it's too painful and boring.
Yes! FINALLY someone else mentions this clown Kimmel always looks stoned. Either that is eyes are read and aquinty from trying to read the tele-prompter. Get new GLASSES or lay off the ERB!
Get this crap off the air. Where is Night Games with Richard Bey?

Day One.This guy is a talentless hack. You must have an IQ of 90 or less to like his stupid vulgarity. How did he ever get a job on TV?
Jumped the shark the day Kimmel was born. No one else seems to notice that this guy ALWAYS LOOKS STONED! That, or he's just incredibly ugly. Either way, his face is not something I want to see when I turn on my TV. If it's there, per chance, I scream, and change the channel before I die from his hideousness. Oh yeah, and he's not funny either. How this guy made it so far in show business is beyond me. Must have a lot of friends I guess.
ABC could be doing worse than air Jimmy Kimmel opposite Letterman and Leno. A talk show starring Vanna White of "Wheel of Fortune" was in the works, which, thankfully, never got past the planning stages. This was undoubtedly to capitalize on her best-selling autobiography plus the fact that CBS was airing the ill-fated show starring Vanna's "Wheel" co-star, Pat Sajak. Hey, Vanna--can I buy a vowel?
(I know I may sound like a loser here but) Jimmy Kimmel is the only late night talk show that I watch now. Leno hasn't been good for like 15 years, Conan is decent but has a lot of bad moments, I saw a Letterman episode recently and it was mostly him ordering a sandwich. None of these things are really for me, except for Conan who does have some extremely funny moments. However I have grown up with Kimmel, from his days on Win Ben Stein's Money, to Man Show, to Live, and even the extremely disappointing Set for Life. Jimmy Kimmel Live is one of the only talk shows that makes me laugh almost every time. I haven't seen it as much as I used to, but I had the biggest laugh I ever have when Jimmy made the "I'm f***ing Ben Affleck" *****. That was the funniest thing I've seen in ages. And the characters on the show are really lovable. I think the one black security guard is probably the worst but she just ends up being a punchline in videos so I can understand keeping her. Uncle Frank is just funny for being so damn senile. Chippy only appears a few times, but she's pretty pointless so she doesn't need to be on ever really. Cousin Sal is extremely random and almost always funny. Jake Bird is always there when a celebrity or Michael Jackson gets in trouble and is usually fairly good. And there's my personal favorite Guillermo. Can't help but love little Guillermo. With his broken english and ways on the red carpet, it's always good for a laugh (and you had to feel bad when Jimmy (or Yimmy) made Guillermo pee his pants while hypnotized). Plus Jimmy will get some good constant guests like Adam Corolla and his girlfriend Sarah Silverman and usually give a good laugh. In fact, I only find Silverman funny when she's on Kimmel. So pretty much Jimmy Kimmel Live has not jumped the shark, and probably won't until Uncle Frank (most likely) dies, or one of the other characters dies.
I'd love to keep going. But I can't.
Apologies to Matt Damon. We ran out of time.
