The whole idea is sleazy to the extent of V.I.P.E.R, only ultra serious and thus boring.
I want to know who the hell thought it would be a good idea to have a show with no likable characters. The protagonists are mean spirited, snide, snarky, overly cynical, soap boxes for the writers. The criminals are about as complicated as Snidely Whiplash. The best of example of how sleazy, preachy, irreverent, and offensive this show is was called "True North"
An episode that will offend:
Canadians, Women, Actual Cops, Lawyers, Canadian Lawyers, anyone that was involved with Aileen Wournos case, and people with competent writing ability. Every line of dialogue is so blatant and poorly thought delivered that it borders on lifetime movie.
Screw this series, and screw the writing staff!
Glen Beck has more class than this show in his entire ass...and we alll know what kind of person he is.
I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the animal smuggling episode yet. Hip-hoppers being eaten by hyenas, Stabler and Benson prancing around in their underwear, and my favorite scene, Capt. Cragen rescuing a smuggled monkey from the evil clutches of a basketball.

That must have been some good crack the writers were smoking when they came up with that plot.
I agree with other posters that the show has too many political messages. Also the L&O franchise is getting a bit too formulaic. Who is the killer? 10 minutes into it you can usually tell: it's the respected businessman, minister or loving spouse etc. "The one you least suspect" except the writers are so awful and formulaic, the viewer already knows! Sorry, I quit being "surprised" a couple seasons ago. Bring in some new writers and send the new ADA back to high school:)
11/25/08: A sitting judge leaves the bench temporarily to go back to the DA's office (yea, like that happens in real life) so she can prosecute a case she had years ago. She openly admits that it's a revenge situation and no onw makes a motion to have her taken off the case? The show is jumping big time.
I agree SVU has Jumped The Shark the last few seasons. It has become a left wing soapbox. The worst episode was called Harm where a female doctor was accused of torturing terrorists. And since the writers ccouldn't do a court trial they sought an out by having the M.E. taking her to the liscensing board.
Sadly, SVU finally jumped the shark this season. Not one episode has been up to par and the idea that Kathleen is all of a sudden an addict, then it never gets mentioned again, is ludicrous. So is the fact that the baby ia already close to the size of a toddler when he was only "born" last season. Mariska is officially a butter face and Meloni is looking turkey-necked.
This show used to be one of my favorite shows. But in the last few seasons, its gotten completely rediculous. It used to be about a nasty crime, they would solve it we all go home. Now there is always some left-wing political message written in the plot, and the show is too much about the personal lives of the main characters. Plus, the way some stupid event ties into the actual crime is getting a bit old. After this weeks episode, I've oficially had enough of this crap.
The new DA is just so lame..

"Crusader" my butt, it's like she walked out of a bad fanfic. As far as I'm concerned, she's the apex of the arc of the jump over the shark.

Not to mention every single episode since the start of season ten has been painfully, painfully stupid.
i hated when they brought in michaela mcmanus.she's so dry and she isn't old enough to play an ADA.She has no chemistry with the other actors. It jumped when they kept focusing on Olivia and Elliott and not giving anythng to anyone else.Bring back Diane Neal before the show continues to jump the shark even more.
At some point during the course of the show--it's hard to pin down exactly where--the cast started castastrophically failing every single case they touched. Not a single rape crosses through their office without at least two innocent victims getting arrested, beaten, publically humiliated, or mistakenly shot by a vigilante. The SVU department must be costing the NYPD their entire discretionary budget in lawsuits.

Anyway, I vote for "everyone got stupid" as the point at which it jumped.
They jumped a long time ago. I recall one episode when they all broke the law and got away with it. I said ok, that's just one episode. But then, it has been happening in almost every episode.

Also, too many guest stars. Even the cast complained about this. You can tell Mariska does not want to be on this show any more.

As for the person who said there is too much focus on Stabler, you need to get real. If you had seen this show from day one, you would have seen that the show started out this way. Can you not see the parallels between Stabler and the criminals he catches? If he were not a cop, he would be a perp.
Am I the only one that thinks the new DA is totally annoying??? For some reason I really don't like her character. Also I agree with the person below me that there is way too much focus on Stabler.
I used to love this show, not any longer. Way too much focus on Elliot Stabler and his family. Not nearly enough Munch and Ice-T. I was sorry to see Adam Beach leave, I enjoyed his time on the show.
it hasnt jumped but wasnt a fan of the dani beck charecter, annoying as hell, can understand why they would allow this rookie into svu, she gets over dramatic and i just dont watch the episodes shes in anymore because i cant stand her character like honestly the episode were she takes the lil girl in wtf and then the kid lights the aprtment on fire, not a fan
This show jumped in the episode where the girl had Turner Syndrome. For those who don't recall, the disease made her look like she was twelve, but she was actually over the age of consent. But Stabler wouldn't let it go and stalked and assaulted her boyfriend, and got away with it. In the original Law & Order, characters got fired or suspended when they broke the law, but here it happens all the time with no consequence.
Also, after a while you start to notice that every episode is exactly the same. Someone gets raped, Benson and Stabler ruin an innocent person's life and don't care, they find the real suspect, it turns out to be some grand internation conspiracy, etc.
