It started out really cool and I actually initially liked the with ordinary folks learning how to survive on an island and the nobility/depravity coming to the surface through adversity. And I even initially liked the many twists and turns but what happened? First they got obsessed with The Hatch, then they spent what seemed to be an entire season stuck in it, then they decided to first ruin then off the most interesting characters (e.g.Echo). I watched one episode past Echo's demise when they elected to sidetracked to that lame Russian guy's farm and then blew up the place- instead of just letting him remain a mystery at the other end of a security camera! That was it.
Now I understand that they've spelled out EXACTLY who survives and who will die on the Island- so what's the point in watching?

I knew an Ian once. He came to a very sticky end. I rest my case.

What clueless person would equate Lost to Gilligan Island? Gilligans Island is a stupid sitcom written for kids. Lost is a highly intelligent drama for adults.Obviouly the one who says Lost is like Gilligans Island would enjoy Gilligans Island over Lost.
I love Lost. Period. Overall it's an incredibly inventive and exciting piece of televisual drama.
Wayne - guys like should be allowed internet access. "if you want a truly decent show to watch, I suggest Ugly Betty, which has the same basic principle as Lost, but is exeecuted much better." What the f***?
Also you might want to ask Santa Claus for lessons in speaking and writing english:
"Seriousley"
"why is there polar bears on the island"
"stereotipical"
"diymentional"
"opinuons"
You might also ask Santa to exlain what a metaphor is. You clearly don't know.

Mark, I think you'd be disappointed, then, to learn that "The Constant" is the highest rated episode in the entire LOST series on TV.com. Consider the context of the show; much stranger things have happened.
It was a great episode, by the way.

I'm afraid, Mr McLeish this is neither the time nor the place for marriage counselling, however, I am concerned for your wellbeing. I suggest you visit this website -

Dr. Gunzburg saved my marriage, and there is no doubt in my mind that he can do the same for yours. But, in my mind, your hatred for Lost is a much more concerning issue. I do not understand how a patriotic American can hate this show? It deals with all the issues we, as Americans, have to face. In metaphor, of course. I wish you the best of luck in rebuilding both your marriage and your enjoyment of Lost.
Yours truly,

Yours truly,
To be fair, I hate both Lost and my wife in equal measure, and each is independent of the other. I was forced into both comitments, but there is no forum online dedicated to criticising my wife. However this is a LOST forum after all, where you can talk about why it's ridiculous, so I thought I would share my well balanced opinuons. But as soon as I DARE to criticise it, everyone goes crazy. Oh well, I don't care, unless someone can work out how to convince my stupid wife to let me free of this vile programme/marriage, you're stuck with me!
P.s. I do know what a metaphor is, it's where there's a theroetical end to something. So there!

not to jump into your debate or anything, but i have to agree, Stanley. The whole "i watch it because my wife is rather dominating and forces me to watch it" thing is very telling. Im thinking this has nothing to do with the show itself and more about your resentment from having to watch it. If you dont want to watch it, leave the room and stop insulting those of us who do enjoy it, even if it is for entertainment purposes... it is TV afterall.
I had a sneaking suspicion that it would be you who replied to my post first, Wayne. Your dream idea is a good observation, and I think you're one step closer to truly being able to appreciate the show, like I think all Americans should be able to.
I think you may be taking out your anger on your wife on the show. I'm not usually one to trifle in other people's personal business, but I suggest you consider that she just believes the show is something to be enjoyed and wants to share that with you.
Anyway, I guess that was slightly off topic. I just think it's sad that some people don't get to enjoy the show because they don't care to look deep enough. Your dream observation is good, but I'm not sure you know what a metaphor is? Maybe you should work on that...
Best wishes.

Never has a show with so much potential been so readily flushed away by bad planning. It's obvious the writers don't have a clue where it's going - it's pluck a plot line out a hat now. The first series was like a hurricane of fresh air. Subsequent seasons have been exercises in confusion - and not in the good way either! A terrible shame.
Hey 'Stanley Malins', I can't accept that you are propossing a serious argument here. So the fact that you are littering this disscussion with pointless posts is disgraceful. But I for one will argue for the sake of saving the art of debating.
If you want to go down the metaphorical roote, you pansy, then I'm sure I can match your 'intellect'. Personally, I think the whole island is a metaphor for a dream. (A badly acted and directed dream for that)
And for the record, I don't watch Lost voluntarily, I watch it becase my wife is rather dominating and forces me to watch it. So there!

Say, Mert Ceruther, you sound like you're a pretty racist guy, you know. Can't you see that Lost is pushing the boundaries of racism? Can't you see that having these characters is challenging the boundaries of racism and racial stereotypes in the modern United States? I think the fact that the Iranian character tortured people is a truly inspired role for him.
Can't you see the beauty of Lost, and just how deep it is? Everything in it is symbolic. Did you know that the Hatch is supposed to represent human emptiness? And no, I didn't just look that up, I figured it out for myself. If you try paying attention, you will love this show, I have faith in your redemption in the eyes of Lost.
However, Wayne McLeish, I do not understand why you post here? Do you hate Lost with such a passion that you feel compelled to do this? I feel sorry for you, and I have great concern for your immortal soul.
