So, they're showing reruns now on TBS - at like 5 in the morning. I have to mute it most of the time because the audience won't shut up! It had it's moments but seriously, do we need to hear "WOOOOOOOOOOOO!" every time one of the main characters walks into the room, speaks, etc. Too annoying and loud for that early in the morning.
one of the worst shows of all time it's good that it got cancelled and never won a single award although it ran for 11 years...disgrace
This show improved with age. It became a good satire that was absolutely hilarious to watch. I can't believe I didn't get hooked on this until college after it ran its course. It survived three possible shark jumps: Seven, the new dog, and yes, Ted McGinley. Jefferson was one of the best characters. Does anyone remember the episode where they parody themselves and Jefferson's character was called Washington? Pure genious!
Jefferson was waaaaay better than Steve. Watching reruns, getting a Steve episode is the equivalent of "getting a Shemp".
The trouble with tv today is that it's too Politically Correct and NOT FUNNY. This show is hilarious if you do not take it seriously and get personally offended. The classics include "A Period Piece" with its 'suit of many hooks!"
**Jefferson is MUCH better than Steve...he is a much better 'buddy' for Al and a good foil for him as well, being a "male bimbo." Wish they'd write some more shows like this...funny, not too crude, just very well done.
this show never jumped, i mean the extra little kid was annoying. but come on. Y'all should BURN IN HELL for even thinking it. Sorry for being drastic but dont mess with show that make people laugh their asses off
I liked the recurring jokes such as the 4 touchdowns in one game, the references to being a "shoeman born and bred", and Al's entrance in which he says something like: A fat woman came into the shoestore today, she asked me for something with a little room. I suggested Montana, and she hit me with her purse.

It's depressing when people try to invest this obvious cartoon with philosophical seriousness.
First off... this show was great, and like most shows, it got stale. It basically started the dysfunctional t.v. family idea. It jumped, when it got old and they had to bring in Seven. Ted did nothing to this show, and whoever voted that is probably a Family Guy fan or something. Jefferson was AWESOME. Big'Uns 4 LIFE.
I have a different take on this show than what most people probably do. As crude and farcial as this show may have gotten at times, I always felt there was an underlying feeling of sadness with the characters. I know that's not what the creators of the show intended and it was definitely not the intention of the show, but I can't help it...let me explain:

Al--a darn good high school football player ("scored 4 TDs in one game...last city championship Polk High ever won"). It was interesting to find out Ed O'Neill's football background while this show aired...I have a feeling Al was definitely good enough to get a college football scholarship until he got Peg pregnant.

Peg--probably a pretty but misguided lady when she was younger...her life took a detour after getting pregnant by and marrying Al.

Kelly--what a beautiful young lady Christina Applegate turned into! I always felt like that, if Kelly had met a nice young man who would have treated her right and cared for her properly (like me when I was younger!), she would have made a great wife. Alas, no chance with her home life and background.

Bud--what young man doesn't go through some of the same issues he did? He was a lot smarter and better looking than he was given credit for, IMO...who knows what he could have accomplished with some support?

Marcy--a tortured soul...there HAD to be a serious dark side to her personality, especially as the show went on. I always thought she was very pretty in the earlier episodes, but lost a bit of attractiveness as the show went on (yes, I know about Amanda Bearse's homosexuality!).

Steve/Jefferson--both married to Marcy...enough said! But for different reasons...I think Steve truly loved Marcy, but was too much of a "henpecked husband." I don't think Jefferson ever loved Marcy...but he still had to put up with an awful lot from her.

Don't get me wrong, I loved a lot of the jokes and shenanigans of this show (e.g., the "shoe salesman" jokes regarding Al, the jokes about sex, each other, etc.). I liked both Steve and Jefferson, so I don't really have a preference there. And, as I alluded to before, one of the great things about watching the later episodes was seeing Christina Applegate mature into such a beautiful young lady (which made up for Marcy's declining looks)!

Did the show jump? It probably did at some point(s)...that was a shame about Katy Sagal's miscarriage and the effect it had on the show. And they did kind of turn into cartoon characters as the show went on. But I've always felt this show had great dramatic potential...and they alluded to it with the ending of the one episode where Peggy was watching Al play football and she said (I think), "He was the best!" I think the cast was great and I think they could have pulled it off without any trouble.
I also thought the show got better when Jefferson came along, I've always preferred Jefferson over Steve cause he was funnier and more similar to Al Bundy.
You people that say Married with Children jumped the shark when Steve left are retarded. Jefferson Darcy was a better character, Marcy Darcy became a better character after Steve left, and the sow in general got better.
I love the early seasons of the show, but it did stay on for too long . The first signs of the show jumping to me was not long after Steve left. The writting started getting too cartoonish after a certain time as well. Personally i think as the show started to gain in popularity it started it's decline. This is mainly because of how the audience started getting louder and louder each week and started to sound more and more stupid. Anytime one of the cast would walk in the room we were treated to whooping and hollering for long periods of time before the actor/actress could say anything. Those are the moments when the show jumped the shark as far as I am concerned.

However I will agree that the addition of Seven is the lowest point of the show's long run.
It's FUNNY, people!
Who's the guy who kills for fun?!? PSYCHO-DAD, pscho dad, psycho DAAAAD!

Help me with these lyrics, am I right?:
D is for the many things you gave me
A is for the apple of my eye
D is for the dish you baked the pie in
D is for the apple of my eye
Y because we love you
Put it all together and what do you get? (make me feel it) "DAAADDD-EEE!"

Gotta love Al Bundy..and if you don't, well I'm sorry for you!
Hey Bundo~ do you actually have a no ma'am t-shirt?? OH COOL! I, too, think all their meetings were quite entertaining to watch. They hated breat-feeding, yet LOVED hooters. Loved the idea of sex, but not with their wives. Remember Mr. Empty Pants? That was hilar.I also agree that the new dog was a poor replacement for old Buck. They shoulda let Buck's memory be enough instead of bringing in a new dog. Although the one Buck episode I did NOT like was when Buck had Cheech Marin's voice and was out prowling and met that poodle and called her a bitch. That was stupid. Other than that, I like the way Buck just lays around and wonders how he ever ended up with this oh so dysfunctional family, the Bundys.
