Fun to read these posts. I don't remember Heather almost being raped. I remember towards the end of it's run it was getting a little tacky, I remember some joke about an animal being killed, it was in poor taste. As far as the Wesley/camp counselor incident, here's some food for thought: If it was wrong for the counselor to rub his shoulders, wasn't it wrong for the actor to perform this? hmmmmmmm
I loved the show and always watched, yet don't remember too much about it. I think it might be because it hasn't been in syndication for a long time. I do remember the shark moment, however.
It was when Wesley hit puberty. His precociousness and banter with Mr. Belvedere had always been the best part of the show. When he matured, the core of the show was gone. They even had an episode about it when Belvedere was trying to recapture the old relationship with Wesley. Instead of falling into the old pattern, Wesley became annoyed by Belvedere. That's when I realized what the show had been missing for a while.

There was one episode where Wesley makes a comment about Mr. Belvedere sleeping in the nude. Enough said ...
Bob Uecker is very funny and Belvedere was equally funny. At first, I didn't think "Mr. Belvedere" would last very long, but it got better and better and had a good run of 5 or 6 seasons. And yes...Heather was very good-looking. There was one episode where she was wearing a tie and her collar was sticking straight up on her left side. Either she didn't notice it or it was some sort of fashion statement...or nobody bothered to fix her tie and her collar, but it was VERY noticeable.
I forgot all about this show until I saw an episode of Family guy where Stewie loudly sings Mr. Belvedere's theme song. I remember the show being on tv but I don't remember anything about it.
I have not seen every episode of belvedere, but from my limited experience, I think the show jumped in the final episode (or two episodes). Why? character development is terrible. Kevin is missing the entire episode, George is reduced to an apish fool, Belvedere maintains no dignity, aloofness or indifference above the family. Well I suppose it was necessary as the 90s were coming that patriarch figures were out of fashion and it was time for the great leveler of gender to come to the american sit com.
I agree with another poster that the final season was an actual improvement, especially the quiz show episode, where heather becomes depressed and sarcastic about being a 1980s teenager. And Belvederes dramatic self aggrandizing humor is irreplaceable.

I loved "Mr. Belvedere"!! When it was on Friday nights during my college years, my friends and I didn't go out bar-hopping until we watched that week's episode. It was in reruns up until the mid-1990s and just vanished...!
One of my fave eps was when Heather wanted to change her name to Bianca and her ditzy friend Angela, confusing 'Bianca' with 'Binaca', wanted to change her name to 'Lavoris'!! I also liked the Halloween ep from 1987 when George found out that the Happy Guys club was a bunch of satanic worshippers!
Too funny!!! This sitcom deserves a DVD release and soon!

This show lost it when the "Very Specials" began to show up. AIDS, molestation, rape, alcoholism - none of this belongs in a sit-com. These brought the show down, in my opinion, and made it no longer an enjoyable comedy, which is what it used to be. Funny for the sake of being funny was abandoned and this show tanked.
Wesley getting touched, a friend of his gets aids and Heather almost gets raped... I thought this show was supposed to be a comedy?
