I guess none of you saw the episode where their fathers are in Chicago in the 1920's Whole Lotta Sharkin' Goin on.
The only possible argument anyone can make for this show jumping would be the very end of the last season (Rodney Allen Rippey, Paul Williams). Those episodes where a tad unfunny. The rest of the series was legendary. "There were some crumbs working their way into the nape of the carpet. My fist is gonna work its way into the nape of your neck!"
When Tony Randall plays Felix's father the optomatrist in the flashback to how they met as kids during prohibition:

"I have had it up to here - my hand is under my chin - with corruption in high places."
Never ever jumped, in spite of inconsistencies (how the two met,etc.).Favorite episodes include the "Password" and "Let's Make a Deal"ones, and the ones that feature Felix's Opera Club. Wish more shows today were as brilliant as this one!!!
Although I think the show was great, the celebrity guests that just happened to be involved just because Oscar was a sportswriter, and Felix a photographer("portraits a specialty")kind of soured me a bit.
Remember the typing contest? "Oscar Madisox" - "Oscar Madisoy" .... Goop Melange... "La Forza Del Destino!!" What a great show!!
FELIX: "It's alright Murray, I know you did your best"!...."That's whats so tragic"! One of the best sitcoms of the '70's!!!!!
Miriam delerium come into my solarium

Seriously the only flaw in this show was it's lack of continuity. Oscar met Felix in so many ways. Oscar met Blanche differently each time. Gloria and Felix met each other differently. Felix was in Iceland, Italy, Occupied France and the Pacifc in WWII.
Season One had a nice apartment, but the show came to life when it went in front of an audience. Their reaction made great jokes supurb. Plus Tony Randall and Jack Klugman had the kind of chemistry every producer wishes they could get from their actors. Perfect.
When Felix falls in love with a football players wife:

FELIX - "I can beat him. Love has made me strong."

OSCAR - "Yeah, but STRENGTH has made him stronger."
When Oscar gets hired by KITTEN magazine as a writer and meets his three new assistants - two gorgeous models and a stern older bookworm.

BOSS (introduces the models first) - "Oscar, meet your assistants - Amber, Tiffany...... and Ms. Sternon."

OSCAR (stuneed) - "What's Ms. Sternon do?"

BOSS - "Most of the work"
When Murray the cop brought over a bunch of roller derby girls and tries to set them up with Felix and Oscar.

FELIX - "All right, I'll do it. But I don't have to be with the plain looking one."

OSCAR - "What plain looking one? Murray's the prettist one out there."
OSCAR - "That's fun fat - everbody has it."

FELIX - "I don't"

OSCAR - "Yeah - You don't have any fun, either"
Red River Unger and his Saddlesores
Telly I have been watching it too, but I am actually looking forward to when they get to the live audience seasons; it seems like they have been in season 1 forever. How long do you think until they show the password episode?

By the way an example of a show that in my opinion is better than the movie. Love jack Lemmon but Tony Randall IS Felix. I've also never been a big Walter Matthau fan (ducks head) so I much prefer Jack Klugman.
